One of the bright spots amidst the terrible news surrounding the global coronavirus pandemic is that all across the planet, roads are pretty empty of traffic. But still, getting in the car and going for a cruise is a bit riskier—and frowned upon—than just staying at home and self-isolating. Anyone interested in hitting the highway safely, though, should check out a new auction listing on Bring a Trailer, where a custom 1997 GMC TopKick C6500 is currently for sale.

Ride Up High

The truck combines monster-truck looks with at least a semblance of practicality: at least it's road-legal. Based on a second-generation GMC TopKick with a shortened wheelbase, the truck is powered by a Liquid Petroleum Gas-fueled 6.0-liter V8 paired with a five-speed manual gearbox that sends power to all four wheels out back—that's right, those are two sets of duallies in the back, but no four-wheel-drive here. Exhaust stacks behind the passenger compartment and 22.5-inch Alcoa wheels perfectly set off the white camouflage wrap with digital blurring effects.

Roaring To Life

While Bring a Trailer might be best-known for classic sports cars, trucks like this are sure to bring the site some serious traffic as onlookers ogle and dream what driving such a big rig would be like. Thankfully, the seller included a pair of driving videos that show just how high up the ride is—no problem staying six feet away from people in this beast.

Not very often does a truck come along that can make an original Hummer look overmatched, but this rig does just that. With the LPG conversion, the seller claims the truck can run at 75 miles per hour without problem and it even handles well. The auction will close in five days, though it's unlikely the hilarious first bid of a single dollar will stand.
