Lucid Motors is just about to release its first car onto the market — the Lucid Air. This luxury sedan will be coming in a range of models, including the Lucid Grand Touring and the Lucid Dream Edition. But one thing that is unusual about this is that Lucid has produced a luxury sedan as its first car — at a time when the American market is shifting ever more to SUVs.

But the truth is that Lucid is also planning to produce a high-end SUV. They are planning to release this new vehicle in 2023 and at the moment is it known as "Project Gravity". Currently, not much is known about this project as it is still secretive and still fairly early in the development process. But looking at their Lucid Air and its specs, we have high hopes for it. Here is everything we know about "Project Gravity", Lucid's new electric SUV.

8 Arriving 2023, Reservations Begin 2021

You will be able to place your reservation on this new electric SUV sometime this year in 2021. The vehicle will not be arriving until 2023, however. While at the moment there are very few electric SUVs on the market (apart from a few crossovers), by 2023 there will be a good deal of fully electric SUVs available.

In a couple of years, we will be spoiled for electric SUV choices. By that time we will have the Rivian R1S, Hummer EV SUV, the Jaguar I-Pace, and a bunch of other high-performing SUVs on the road.

7 Fantastic Range

Unfortunately, we don't know the range of this SUV, but Lucid Motors has assured us it will be "long-range". Currently, Lucid's upcoming Lucid Air is in a tug-of-war with the Tesla Model S to see who can offer the longest range. But at the moment it would seem the Lucid Air wins with a massive EPA 517 miles on a charge.

Whatever the range of "Project Gravity" ends up being, we can be sure that it will be one of the very best in the world. Perhaps it could even beat all other electric SUVs in 2023 as Lucid is one of the leaders in battery technology.

6 Original Thinking And Next Level

Lucid Motors is a lot like Tesla. They are both new start-up car companies seeking to revolutionize the automotive industry. That is why when we hear Lucid claiming that their new SUV will "elevate the SUV to a new level," we are inclined to believe them.

"Project Gravity" is to be a luxury SUV with "previously unimaginable performance". Again, Lucid is building its brand name and recognition on its ability to create world-leading vehicles. So we would expect nothing less. We will see if this SUV will be the best electric SUV on the market or one of the best.

5 Lucid Electric Advanced Platform (LEAP)

We also know that the SUV will be built on Lucid's "Lucid Electric Advanced Platform" or LEAP. This is one of the world's best in the class and is a testament to Lucid Motor's engineering.

With LEAP all the components of the vehicle's powertrain have been successfully miniaturized while increasing the available space for passengers and cargo alike.

Despite not yet having built and sold an electric car, Lucid Motors is one of the world leaders in advanced EV technology. They started more a parts supplier and then thought they had the expertise to make world-class EVs.

4 "Project Gravity" Will Be Spacious

Project Gravity is also employing Lucid's "Space Concept" whereby they focus on maximizing the interior space of the vehicle. They do this by miniaturizing the powertrain and having an original eye for detail. One wonders if there is further room for improvement from here, or if the parts are as miniaturized as possible.

The SUV will also be a seven-seater and will be taking advantage of the fact that electric car components tend to be smaller and require less room. So the vehicle will be bigger on the inside without actually having to make the vehicle itself larger.

3 Progressing Well

In April 2021 the chief designer Derek Jenkins stated that the development of "Project Gravity" is progressing very well. He went on to say that the project remains on schedule. Developing new projects and concepts is never easy and is frequently delayed.

It is encouraging that we are now at this stage of the design and development process, and it hasn't run into significant hiccups just yet. This seven-seater is not expected for a long time yet. It's not expected to go into production until 2023. By this time, Lucid should have experience producing cars.

2 Fast Charging

Lucid Motors' Lucid Air is superfast charging. It can add a very impressive 300 miles of charge in as little as 20 minutes. The SUV will be built on the same platform, so we have every reason to expect it will be just as good or even better.

This demonstrates how Lucid is one of the world leaders in developing very high-performing electric vehicles. That being said, there is no room for complacency as Tesla is also a world leader, and it has claimed that its new 250kW charging capacity can add 1,000 miles in just an hour.

1 Powerful SUV

Lucid's SUV will also be very powerful. Again we don't have any specs released yet, but using their Lucid Air as a proxy we can expect it to be very powerful. The Lucid Air is claimed to be the world's most powerful sedan with 1,080 hp.

Accordingly, we would expect nothing less from "Project Gravity". It is certain to boast dizzying acceleration and superb power. It will be powerful, fast, and fast charging — in fact, on some accounts, it is billed as the world's fastest charging electric vehicle just edging out Telsa and their Superchargers.

In summary "Project Gravity" is sure to be a fabulous luxury SUV and we are looking forward to actually learning about its specs.
