Occasionally on an auction site, a truly special and rather beautiful car can come up for sale. Not least if we are checking out what Mecum Auctions are selling at one of their large events across the United States. They regularly have some truly special cars on show for us to look at.

Currently, up for grabs at their May 2022 Indy auction, is this stunning 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Fastback. This is a highly rare Peruvian Championship car and a main attraction of the Indy auction.

A Very Rare Shelby Fastback

This remarkable car is one of just 5 examples of its type exported to Peru, and is one of just 36 GT350R competition models produced in total. Bratzo Vicich drove the car to the South American and Peruvian championships in 1973, so it very much has great racing pedigree behind it.

The car is remarkably signed by Bob Bondurant, and it has a notarized document by Vicich confirming the authenticity of the car. It went through a massive restoration at Walt Hane’s EPS shop in Evergreen, Colorado and has taken part in classic car events such as the Telluride Festival of Cars and Colors in 2019.

Under the hood of this stunning Mustang is a 298 ci V8 engine that has a four-speed manual transmission to handle the power. The car is in a stunning Wimbledon White Exterior with Blue stripes and is in its No. 403 racing livery, with sponsor logos from the likes of Gulf across the car.

The Mecum Auction listing says that this car has done some 27,434 miles so despite the fact it is nearly 60 years old, the car is hardly ran in.

Inside the car are bucket seats and a roll bar, plus a fire extinguisher if something were to ever go wrong. Lightweight plastic side and rear windows helped to keep the weight down for the racing action, and the interior is in black as a whole. The car will come with original mag wheels, and there is extensive documentation with the Mustang too. This includes receipts, the racing logbook, vintage photographs as well as magazine stories.

This is certainly a unique opportunity to own one of the rarest examples of a Shelby Mustang in the world.
