Whether you're a fan of the polo shirt or not, there's no denying that the man who made them popular is more than just a designer, in quite a few ways. Ralph Lauren, the man behind the multi-billion dollar fashion empire, has a net worth of $7.6 billion himself. He also tops the gearhead list with the most valuable car collection in the US! And with other names like Jay Leno on that list, that's a big achievement.

Updated March 2023: We've updated this article with the latest details on Ralph Lauren's net worth, the most valuable car collection in America, and how it compares to the most valuable car collection in the world.

Ralph Lauren acquires motoring works of art, which makes putting a value to his car collection a bit of a task. Because of the rarity of the cars in his collection, and the fact that many are one-of-one, it's not as simple as looking up the Kelley Blue Book values of them. But YouTube channel VINwiki takes a shot anyway, making for a video you can't miss. The figure they come up with, only taking into account the cars they know he owns, will make your head spin. Guaranteed.

While Lauren owns several iconic cars, the team only managed to find 55 of them. Ed Bolian is of the opinion that the fashion billionaire owns far more than what the team managed to dig up, of which one happens to the Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic.

Only four cars were produced, and only two of them survived. Both were winners of many auto shows, including Pebble Beach. The first car found a new owner in 2010, with the transaction reported to be in the range of $38 to $40 million, making it the most expensive car up to that point. Lauren's 57SC is objectively in better condition, so the team priced it at a significant premium.

In terms of prices, VINwiki's Ed Bolian values Lauren’s 57SC Atlantic at $100 million, and so does John Ficarra. John Temerian, on the other hand, values the car slightly above, at $110 million. But later, Ficarra upped the price to $150 million, given the significance and that it won’t sell short of today’s most expensive car — the $142 million Mercedes-Benz SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe.

Part of his all-red-car collection, this car is probably the most revered classic ever made. The Ferrari 250 GTO is a famous entrant for breaking previous auction records for a staggering $70 million.

Additionally, Lauren also happens to be in possession of a Ferrari 250LM, which is yet another Tifosi special. Anyone who is into the world of classic Ferraris knows the significance and rarity of the 250LM. Ed Bolian values Ralph Lauren’s 250LM at $25 million, while John Temerian and John Ficarra put it at $35 million.

As for Lauren’s Ferrari 250 GTO, Ed and John Ficarra — owing to its provenance — value the car at $85 million and $90 million, respectively, while Temerian puts it at $80 million. That is if it ever comes up for sale.

Another in his stable is the Ferrari F40. No doubt, given the rich heritage and being the last Ferrari to be signed off by the legend himself, the F40 would go down as a great investment. When new, the Ferrari F40 was worth around $400,000.

Today decent F40 examples cost anywhere between $1.5 million and $2 million. However, according to John Temerian, Lauren’s F40 is worth at least $3.3 million, with Ed and Ficarra pricing the car at $3.5 million and $3.4 million, respectively.

According to the team, Ralph Lauren owns not one, not two, but three McLaren F1s — two road cars and one F1 LM. Only five McLaren F1 LMs are in existence, with three being rumored to be part of the Brunei collection and two in the United States.

Ralph Lauren’s McLaren F1 LM is valued at $40 million by Temerian, while Ficarra puts it at $35 million. Ed claims the car is worth at least $50 million, with future prices knocking at the door of $100 million. As for the road cars, Ed values Lauren’s two McLaren F1s at $22 million each, Ficarra at $18 million, and Temerian at $20 million, assuming they are ever put up for sale.

How Much Is A Bentley Blower Worth?

Ralph Lauren also owns a 1929 4 1/2-Liter "Blower". This is a very rare pre-war performance machine. There are a total of 500 of these 4 1/2-Liter Bentleys, but only 50 of them are Blowers, or the supercharged ones. Climbing up the exclusivity table, only five of these 50 are the actual racecars that were used to make this Bentley a Le Mans-winning legend. And Lauren has the No 4 chassis!

These are rare cars that seldom pop up on sale. The last supercharged 4.5-Liter sold was in 2016 for a whopping $4 million. Based on the current market trend, Ed values it at $6 million. But Ficara disagrees and states that it is a unique piece of art that is worth more. He values it at $7 million. Temerian states that he has a bit less skin in the pre-war era Bentleys but agrees with Ed on the evolving market. And that is going to affect how these older gems are valued. He values Lauren's blower Bentley at $6 million.

The appraising trio moves on to other cars in Lauren’s collection, including the 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK "Count Trossi," Jaguar D-Type, Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Mille Miglia, and many more.

All told Ralph Lauren’s entire car collection is estimated to be worth north of $600 million, making it one of, if not the most valuable car collection in the United States. Ed Bolian estimates Ralph Laurens's car collection at $640 million, Ficarra at $700 million, and Temerian values the collection to be worth $610 million. And in case you were wondering, that still pales in comparison to the Sultan of Brunei's car collection which is estimated to be worth over $3 billion.
