Given the recent automotive industry shutdowns, any eager buyers anxiously awaiting Ram's competitor to the Ford F-150 Raptor will probably have to wait a while longer. Early spy shots of the TRX (get it, like "T-Rex"?) look promising, though Fiat-Chrysler clearly believes that some buyers might be more interested in the old street-sport category that Dodge made famous with trucks like the Lil Red Express and Viper-powered SRT-10. Now, RAM has unveiled the Night Edition package for the 2020 Ram 1500 that comes with some neat design features plus a few Mopar upgrade options.

Burning Rubber

All the off-road beasts in the pickup market today mean that buyers have become accustomed to seeing trucks like the Raptor, the Chevy Colorado ZR2, and the Jeep Gladiator Mojave charging over dunes. Ram went the opposite route for the 1500 Night Edition and created a quick 13-second clip of the truck burning rubber with its rear wheels.

As an options package available on 1500 trucks in Laramie and Big Horn trim, the Night Edition is largely about appearances. Details include blacked-out exterior accents from the grille to the rear badging, as well as 20 and 22-inch aluminum wheels finished in matching satin black.

The interior, meanwhile, receives a bevy of black trim pieces to match black leather and an optional 12-inch Uconnect infotainment system with the largest-in-class touchscreen. Under the hood lurks Ram's 5.7-liter Hemi V8 which is paired with a mild hybrid system to allow for towing capacity up to 12,750 pounds—three other engine options are also available. Additional power and performance upgrades from Mopar include a cat-back exhaust system for dual exhaust-equipped trucks and a Ram Airflow cold-air intake system that lends a "strong performance look" to the engine bay.
