This is the big SUV that Ram should totally make.
We’re a little lost on why Fiat Chrysler hasn’t decided to enter the big SUV market. And we’re not talking regular mid-size SUVs that are perfect for moving the family from point A to point B: we’re talking about the huge full-size SUVs that are capable of doing that while simultaneously hauling a small house.
Examples of this class of vehicle include the Chevy Suburban, the Ford Expedition, and the Cadillac Escalade.
With Ram being all about pickups ranging from large to the size of semi-trailers, you’d think that a big SUV would also be right up their alley. Or at the very least right up Dodge’s alley along with the Durango. It could even use the Ram 1500 chassis.
But no, Ram sticks with pickup trucks. It’s what they know and what they’re good at. However, we live in the age of the internet, which means someone out there has the imagination and expertise to show us what a Ram SUV would look like.
Behold! The work of Russian artist Nikita Chuiko who took the new 2019 Ram 1500 Limited and basically gave it a bed cover. It works well with the overall lines of the Ram 1500, and even adds a new tailgate with a full-length tail light in a nod to the current Durango. But otherwise, it’s a Ram 1500 with a third row and a roof. Well, a larger roof.
As a Limited Ram 1500 SUV, we can safely assume this truck will come with all the trimmings. That means a 12-inch Uconnect infotainment system, massaging seats, and a full sensor suite including a 360-degree camera view. It’ll also come with that adaptive air suspension that gives the Ram 1500 the smoothest ride in the pickup world.
We suspect the 5.7-L HEMI would be the best engine for the job, especially if it has that eTorque magic mild hybrid system too.
So come on, FCA! Get this SUV made already.
