Spectator drag racing videos are coming thick and fast these days; just like the cars that race in them, as always, we like a bit of uneven competition to make things more interesting.

Old vs new and big vs small, modified vs unmodified – there is something for everyone over on YouTube, including the mighty Dodge Challenger SRT Demon outpacing modified beasts out on the strip.

This time, the video – courtesy once again of DRACS (Drag Racing And Car Stuff) – showcases something big against a pair of smaller cars and the protagonist is almost as big as they come.

The RAM TRX Is Faster And Cooler Than Any Truck Should Be

This Dodge Ram is a 1500 TRX, goes by the name Big Blue, and you can find more of the owner’s racing exploits over on Instagram at @TNAMotorsport.

A standard fifth-generation Ram pickup comes in a great many variations and engines, from a 3.6-liter, 300 hp V6, to giant diesel engines, but the TRX comes with a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 that makes more than 700 hp and can do 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

That hellcat-like truck looks here to be without modifications, but there is no information regarding its condition – some commentators on YouTube hinted that it must hide modifications to be this quick, but we’ll have to see just how quick it is on the strip.

It’s evening at Bradenton race park in Florida and the cars are ready to go, and it’s the RAM TRX against a white modified 3rd-gen Mustang, both racing for the best time over the ¼ mile.

First race against the 3rd-gen Mustang is off to an exciting start. Out of the factory, the Ford could have come with anything from a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder under the hood up to a 5-liter small-block V8, but here it’s a mystery whether it’s running a 5-liter or a modified version of it.

An explosive start: the TRX is off the line quicker than its pony-car opponent, the sound is incredible as the truck maintains this lead early on.

Surprisingly, the Ford makes a comeback later with its superior top-end speed, and the times read as follows at the trap: 9:83 at 141 mph for the Ford and 10:18 at 132 mph for the pickup.

Second time around there’s the same RAM TRX against another black Mustang and after a better start and wheelie by the Ford, the Dodge reigns-in the race and earns a 10:03 at 133 mph time vs 10:31 at 130 mph.

This truck is consistent, with the third blast down the strip revealing a 10:01 at 134 mph, not bad for a truck, although the throbbing motor under that hood and four-wheel-drive lend themselves to quick sprints.
