The Aston Martin brand is one of the pillars of the British automotive industry, having been in existence for over a century now. The carmaker has weathered several storms over the years and continues to produce some of the most elegant performance vehicles out there today. Their offerings are known for stylish designs and a healthy dose of luxury features. Aston Martin has been able to achieve this without necessarily sacrificing performance.

There are several Aston Martin cars, past and present, which have very credible high-performance credentials, especially in the speed department. There's been a lot of hype surrounding the brand's upcoming cars like the Valkyrie and the Valhalla, but here, we shift the focus and shine the spotlight on these models that are among the fastest Aston Martin cars ever built.

10 Aston Martin Virage - 183 MPH

This little-known Virage only stuck around for a couple of years, from 2011 to 2012. It was originally intended to slot in somewhere between the DB9 and DBS.

Ultimately though, Aston Martin decided the cars were just too similar and pulled the plug on the Virage after about 1,000 units had been built. The Virage had a 6.0-liter V12 engine that generated 490 hp, enough for a 4.6 second run to 60 mph and a top speed just north of 180 mph.

9 1993 Aston Martin V8 Vantage - 186 MPH

The 1993 V8 Vantage was a force to be reckoned with in its day. It was a big, brutish machine that weighed over 4,300 pounds. That mass was finely balanced by a supercharged 5.3-liter V8 engine that pumped out about 550 hp at 6,500 rpm, making it one of the most powerful production cars back then.

All those horses were put to good use under the hood too and the V8 Vantage could accelerate to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds, a pretty decent number for the '90s.

In November 2017, the new Vantage was introduced to the public as a successor to the previous model that had been in production for 12 years. The redesigned Vantage was built around a modified DB11 chassis while Mercedes-AMG supplied the engine. The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 is good for 503 hp and 505 lb-ft of torque from just 2,000 rpm.

The V8 Vantage can knock off the 60 mph sprint in a brisk 3.4 seconds and its 195 mph top speed is nothing to be sneezed at. It puts the Vantage right up there with rivals like the Benz AMG GT and the Jaguar F-Type SVR.

The preppy sports car was a delightful machine in its time with its small frame taking full advantage of the carmaker's famous V12 power plant, especially when paired with the 7-speed manual transmission.

The sports car was rated at 563 hp at 6,650 rpm and that sonorous engine will always tempt you into finding the vehicle's limits as you mash the gas pedal. The V12 Vantage S will gallop to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and complete the quarter-mile run in a decent 12.5 seconds at 121.6 mph.

6 Aston Martin Rapide AMR - 205 MPH

Just like with the DB11 AMR, this was the high-performance variant of Aston's 4-door sports sedan. A limited production run of just 210 examples was planned from 2018 to 2020. The Rapide AMR had unique features like a steering wheel from the One-77, personalized interior plaque, and a variety of color options.

Apart from cosmetic enhancements, the Rapide AMR also packed one heck of a punch for a 4-door sedan. It only needed 4.4 seconds to get to 60 mph and the speedo needle would continue climbing until the car maxed out at a 205 mph top speed.

5 Aston Martin Vanquish S - 207 MPH

The Vanquish is gone now, at least until 2024 when it will possibly re-emerge in all its glory, and in a very different form compared to the last iteration. The highlight of the British sports car had to be its V12 engine, a naturally aspirated powerhouse that cranked out 580 hp in the American spec.

It is an engine that's full of drama and character, especially as you approach the 7,000 rpm mark. A 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3.2 seconds and 207 mph top speed is proof that the engine can also serve up serious levels of performance when called upon.

There's a V8 variant but in 2018, the DB11 became the first Aston Martin to use the brand's down-sized V12 power plant. It is not as powerful as the unit found in the DBS Superleggera but there's still a decent amount of horsepower for proper sports car performance.

The V12 engine puts out 630 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque for the AMR model. It's enough to get the sleek car to 60 mph in an impressive 3.4 seconds; that's 0.2 seconds faster than the non-AMR DB11 V12.

3 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera - 211 MPH

With a curb weight exceeding 3,700 pounds, the DBS Superleggera is not exactly a light car. However, that is understandable especially as it was built to be more of a Grand Tourer rather than a pure performance supercar. This does not make it slow by any stretch of the imagination though.

The DBS Superleggera is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V-12 engine that generates 715 hp which drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic. The grand tourer will accelerate to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds on its way to a 211 mph top speed.

In 2010, this ultra-exclusive supercar made its debut as the fastest production Aston Martin car ever made. Its impressive top-end speed is mostly down to the massive engine shoehorned under the elongated hood. That power plant is a 7.3-liter V12 that cranks out 750 hp at 7,500 rpm and 553 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm.

The engine is paired with a 6-speed automated manual transmission and if you get your launch right, the car will also hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, a truly impressive figure for 2010.

1 Aston Martin Vulcan - 225 MPH

This limited-edition hypercar takes its name from the Roman god of fire and is every bit as formidable as that would suggest. It is mostly built around a monster 7.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 that produces a thumping 820 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque. The Vulcan is a track-only machine from the factory and that gave Aston Martin free rein to really push the boundaries of what the car can do.

All the car's power is fed to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential transmission and you can expect a 2.9-second sprint to 60 mph if you get the launch just right. Also, that claimed 225 mph makes it the king of Aston Martin speed machines, for now.
