Trucks aren't necessarily meant to be fast. Actually, quite the opposite is true. They're meant to be able to tow trailers and haul cargo, and as a result, they've been historically slow—at least compared to sedans and sports cars. However, trucks have been getting faster over the years while managing to also steadily increase their fuel efficiency, which is slowly expanding their market; they're becoming more like family vehicles than just work trucks. This is good news for anyone who wants to own a truck but also has a bit of a need for speed—if that need is satisfied by a 7-second 0-60 mph.

Now, these trucks are straight from the factory, and while they're fast for their class, none of them are breaking any speed records. Then, of course, on the flip side, we're also looking at the slowest trucks to date. These are the slowest of the slow, the turtle to the hare. Some of the acceleration times actually seem a little unsafe for how quick cars are today, making merging very scary when it takes you 13 seconds to hit 60 mph. While they may be slow, all of the models mentioned sold pretty decently and are pretty common vehicles today. Now, the average truck owner probably doesn't care about whether or not his truck is fast, but it always feels good to have a vehicle faster than someone else's.

20 Fastest: GMC Canyon

via carandriver.com

The GMC Canyon is basically a sportier Colorado that has all the high-tech gadgets you can expect in a 2018 GMC. The Canyon is a 4-door truck, which is a bit unusual for a truck as small as it is, but it does still have plenty of legroom.

The Canyon can go from 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds,  although it only has a top speed of 99 mph.

The Canyon has a V6 with an 8-speed transmission, giving it just over 300 horsepower. There are also smaller models available featuring a smaller 4-cylinder motor and a smaller price tag.

19 Fastest: Dodge Ram 1500

via caranddriver.com

The Dodge Ram 1500, alongside the F-150 and the Silverado, is one of the most iconic trucks in the world. Despite its enormous size, it's still one of the fastest trucks of the year, going from 0-60 mph in 7.4 seconds. This impressive acceleration is brought to you by a mighty 5.7L V8 pushing out around 395 horsepower. Again, there's a smaller model with a 3.6L V6, but it only produces 305 horsepower. The smaller model is cheaper, as you'd expect, but what you wouldn't expect is that a truck this size can be that quick. Ram is holding it down in the truck game for sure.

18 Fastest: Toyota Tacoma

via caranddriver.com

The Toyota Tacoma has been one of the most popular small trucks for years, and everyone has either owned one or known someone who did—and for good reason. The Tacoma has been one of the most acclaimed small trucks on the market since it first hit the market. The 2018 Tacoma can reach 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, the fastest we've seen so far. There are, of course, a couple of different options for the engine size on the Tacoma, with the fastest one being the 4.0L V6, which pushes out 236 horses. The smallest option is a 2.7L 4-cylinder motor.

17 Fastest: GMC Sierra 1500

via caranddriver.com

The GMC Sierra 1500 is the sportier cousin of the Silverado, with a few more bells and whistles and a more sleek, city-style design. The Sierra 1500 can go from 0-60 mph in 7.3 seconds, which is nothing to hiss at, considering the size of the truck.

Its power stems from a mighty 4.3L V6 engine, which cranks out 355 horsepower, but it may not have the most impressive top speed, which is just shy of 100 mph.

There are larger engine options that are better for towing, but they also come with a heftier price tag. The Sierra is a really large truck, which makes that acceleration even more impressive.

16 Fastest: Honda Ridgeline

via caranddriver.com

The Honda Ridgeline is basically a CR-V with a bed attached to the back, and that's not a bad thing. It has a family truck kind of appeal to it as opposed to... say... a work truck or a farm truck—and not just because of its small size. With good gas mileage and plenty of storage and seating, it's less equipped for towing and more equipped for family trips. The Ridgeline can go from 0-60 mph 7.2 seconds due to its 3.5L V6 engine, which makes a hefty 250 horsepower for this lightweight truck and gives it one of the quickest acceleration times today.

15 Fastest: Chevy Colorado

via youtube.com

The Chevy Colorado is one of the quickest trucks of 2018, and it's also one of the slowest trucks of 2018, depending on what model you get.

The V6 model has a 3.6L V6 engine that makes 308 horsepower and features an 8-speed transmission.

The V6 model is capable of going from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds, which is faster than some sedans out there today and is very respectable. It also has great gas mileage, even compared to other mid-size trucks. The Colorado is among the fastest of the fastest trucks on our list today—at least the V6 model is.

14 Fastest: Nissan Titan

via caranddriver.com

The Nissan Titan is a truck made by the same people that make the GT-R, and how does that not sound intriguing? The Titan has a 5.6L V8 engine, which pumps out a staggering 390 horsepower. Due to this large amount of power under the hood and some good old Nissan engineering, the Titan can go from 0-60 mph in 7 seconds flat, which is very impressive, considering it's also one of the biggest trucks on the market today. The Titan has a very city style design to it, which is to be expected since it was made by Nissan.

13 Fastest: Toyota Tundra

via caranddriver.com

The Toyota Tundra is yet another JDM truck to make it onto the list of fastest trucks, which is probably not too much of a surprise. What's kind of a surprise, though, is how quickly the Tundra can get up and go, considering its size.

It can manage to go from 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds, and this speedy acceleration is due to its gigantic 5.7L V8 that makes a grizzly 381 horsepower.

The Tundra has the second-largest towing capacity on trucks worldwide and is able to tow 10,200 pounds, which is obviously where all that horsepower really comes into play.

12 Fastest: Chevy Silverado 1500

via caranddriver.com

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is one of the most renowned trucks in the world, partly due to the fact that it's been around for such a long time. But what we care about is, of course, how fast it is. The Silverado 1500 can go from 0-60 mph in a mind-boggling 5.7 seconds. This is a very large truck, and it can accelerate as fast as some lower-end sports cars. It gets its power from a 2.7L turbocharged engine, with enough onboard tuning, including camshaft timing. The truck has 310 horsepower, which is a little lower than expected, but that turbo does good work, obviously.

11 Fastest: Ford F-150

via caranddriver.com

The Ford F-150 is probably the most famous truck in the entire world and is one of the best-selling vehicles of all time. It speaks for itself. It sells well, everyone knows of it, and it's been around for decades.

But what people may not know about the 2018 F-150 is that with a very impressive 0-60 mph of 5.6 seconds, it's one of the fastest trucks out there today.

This insane acceleration is made possible by a 5L V8 engine that makes 325 horsepower, which isn't too shabby for a naturally aspirated motor.

10 Slowest: Ford F-450

via autoweek.com

The Ford F-450 is one of the quickest of our slow trucks, but it's still among the slowest trucks in the world. It's a pretty large vehicle, and just looking at it, you can assume it's not too quick, but it does manage to go from 0-60 mph in 8.3 seconds. The F-450 has a towing capacity of 21,000 lbs, which is just astounding. The Ford F-450 is certainly slow, but it's one of the most advanced trucks on the market and is pretty affordable for a truck that large.

9 Slowest: Ram 1500 Ecodiesel 4x4

via youtube.com

The Dodge Ram 1500 was one of the fastest trucks this year, but the Ecodiesel submodel just didn't have the same power. The Ecodiesel 4x4 goes from 0-60 mph in just shy of 10 seconds.

This model is the slowest Ram 1500 on the market, possibly due to a more eco-friendly engineering design, or it could be because of the lower amount of power it has as a 4x4.

Either way, it's still been well received despite its horrible acceleration. The Ecodiesel model does have much better fuel efficiency, which is to be expected and is possibly the saving grace for the truck.

8 Slowest: Chevy Colorado

via caranddriver.com

The Chevy Colorado was one of the fastest trucks this year, as mentioned earlier, but they also have a base model that's one of the slowest trucks on the market today. It can go from 0-60 mph in 9.3 seconds, which is just insanely slow. The base-model Colorado comes with a 4-cylinder engine, and something obviously just didn't work out correctly. It may be incredibly slow, but it does come with more high-tech gadgets than some sports cars out there and even has WiFi. However, if you want all of that cool stuff and to be able to actually merge safely, the V6 model is the obvious choice.

7 Slowest: Lincoln Mark LT

via topspeed.com

The Lincoln Mark LT is still one of the fastest trucks out there today and also one of the most luxurious. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Lincoln is luxury. The Mark LT takes 9.5 seconds to get from 0-60 mph. That's just way too slow by today's standards. It comes with a not-so-powerful V8 engine, but when the Mark LT came out, that was a pretty respectable 0-60 mph time. However, it's just not up to our speed standards today, and that's why it made it onto our list of slowest trucks today.

6 Slowest: Toyota Hilux

via topspeed.com

The Toyota Hilux may not be as popular as the Tacoma, but it's another one of Toyota's mid-sized trucks. It's been around for a while but just hasn't managed to get a name for itself.

The Hilux goes from 0-60 mph in 9.5 seconds, which is just not acceptable.

It has an interesting design, though, and with a 2.7L 4-cylinder, you cannot expect it to have the best acceleration out there. It does get very good gas mileage, though, which is possibly more important than speed in a truck like the Hilux.

5 Slowest: Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 Dually

via pinterest.com

The Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 Dually is one of the biggest trucks out there today. It may have a very slow acceleration, taking 9.5 seconds to go from 0-60 mph, but considering its size, that's pretty impressive. There are trucks half the size that take that long to get to 60 mph. The Ram 3500 4x4 is still not in the 10-second range, which means it's not the slowest truck out there, although it sure is one of the slowest trucks. It does, however, have a crazy amount of towing power, which is obviously what this truck was meant for in the first place.

4 Slowest: Volkswagen Amarok 2.0

via autoevolution.com

The Volkswagen Amarok 2.0 is one weird truck for sure. Most people probably didn't even know that VW made a truck or that it would be so slow. The Amarok 2.0 can go from 0-60 mph in 11.1 seconds, which is the slowest we've seen so far.

A 0-60 time of 11.1 seconds is almost laughable, and it makes you wonder what went wrong with this truck.

This truck isn't very popular, possibly due to the poor amount of power or maybe the lackluster design. Either way, the Amarok has some explaining to do for this whole "11.1 seconds" deal.

3 Slowest: Ford Ranger Limited Diesel

via topspeed.com

The Ford Ranger was popular when it first came out and was well known as a reliable small truck. While it's gotten bigger over the years, the power hasn't increased with the size. The Ranger Limited Diesel goes from 0-60 mph in a shockingly slow 12.3 seconds, which is just embarrassing. They're claiming to have resolved this low power issue in the newest model coming out in 2019, but we'll have to wait and see because they have a lot of changes to make like shaving 5 to 6 seconds off of that 0-60 mph time. Either way, the new design is certainly sleek, and hopefully, they can live up to their own hype.

2 Slowest: Mitsubishi L200

via youtube.com

Mitsubishi has been known for family cars, sports cars, and even trucks. However, they've always been known for having relatively quick cars. That raises the question of what happened with the L200, which has a 14.2-second 0-60 mph. This is by far one of the slowest vehicles on the planet and one of the slowest trucks out there. It also has a very odd design that, combined with that terrible acceleration, is probably why we don't see many of these today. Mitsubishi obviously made a mistake with the L200.

1 Slowest: Ford F-650 Dump Truck

via youtube.com

While the Ford F-650 Dump Truck isn't necessarily something people own as a daily driver, it's still slow enough and common enough to make it on the list today. Besides, we've all wondered, at one point or another, how fast a dump truck is while stuck behind them in traffic.

The F-650 can go from 0-60 mph in a ridiculously slow 17.6 seconds, and that probably isn't too bad, considering the fact that it's a giant utility vehicle.

But still, it feels like forever when they're in your way at a traffic light.
