When it comes to muscle cars, one of the brands that immediately come to mind is Dodge. When the company was founded in 1913, Dodge was an incredible success, even becoming the third-largest automaker in the U.S. Unfortunately, Dodge brothers John and Horace passed away and the company’s future seemed uncertain. Fortunately, Chrysler eventually purchased Dodge.
Just like that, Dodge was back in business and it wasted no time producing some of the fastest and most powerful cars we’ve seen today. Some of these cars are also quite rare because of the company’s decision to limit production.
10 1967 Dodge Coronet WO23
Back in the 60s, Chrysler was determined to have a competitive car in the NHRA and that paved the way for the development of the 1967 Coronet WO23. This car is powered by a 426 Hemi engine rated to produce 425 horses.
According to Mecum Auctions, only 55 examples of the car were made. Meanwhile, the fascination around Coronets continues today and some people even modify them. In fact, some got a Hemi swap while a 1968 Coronet cop car got a supercharged Hellcat V8.
9 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona
The 1969 Charger is not just any rare muscle car. It also happens to be a NASCAR legend. Chrysler rolled out the Daytona just as their Hemi cars were losing their competitive advantage. Fortunately, the Daytona has a 440 Magnum engine that cranks out 375 horses.
According to the American Muscle Car Museum, the car took 24 victories in 1969. Only 501 Charger Daytonas were ever made. Even today, Dodge fans are fascinated by this car. In fact, a 2013 Challenger was dressed up as a 1969 Charger Daytona for an auction.
8 1967 -1970 Dodge Coronet R/T 426 HEMI Convertible
Classic muscle car fans generally consider these convertibles as the holy grail. The 1967 to 1970 Coronet R/T came with a 7.0-liter Hemi V8 engine, which was relatively new around that time. The cars delivered 425 horses, which was more than enough to make any gearhead happy.
In total, about 30,000 R/T cars were produced from 1967 to 1970. However, only two convertibles were produced each year, making them extra rare. Recently, the show Graveyard Carz restored a 1-of-2 Hemi 1970 Coronet R/T convertible.
7 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Convertible Hemi
If you badly want a Challenger convertible, you may need to go all the way back to 1970 or find a Challenger with this model year. 1970 is a special year because this was the first time that a Challenger convertible was ever released. Overall, there were reportedly around 1,070 people who ordered the Challenger R/T convertible.
However, according to Mecum Auctions, only nine of them opted to get a 425-horsepower Hemi engine. Today, we consider the 1970 Challenger R/T Hemi convertible to be a rare muscle car no one knows about because there are just very few of them.
6 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X
To mark the final year of production for the Viper, Dodge thought it would turn the ACR-X into a track car. Under the hood, you’re looking at an 8.4-liter SRT-developed V10 engine that cranks out a whopping 640 horses. That is 40 horsepower more than the Viper production model.
The car is also fitted with a race-tuned suspension. It was also given some aerodynamic enhancements to improve the Viper’s grip during high-speed cornering. According to a report from Car and Driver, only 24 examples of the car were scheduled for production before the Viper’s plant closed down.
5 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat VIN0001
Sure, you can get the latest Challenger SRT Hellcat today, but it would never be the same as this one. After all, this muscle car is one of one. In a press release, Tim Kuniskis, the president and CEO of Dodge and SRT Brands, remarked that the car is “the ultimate collectible 2015 Dodge challenger.”
Under the hood, there’s a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 engine that delivers up to 707 horses and 650 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the car also boasts of an NHRA-certified quarter-mile time of 10.8 seconds.
4 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
Even today, gearheads regard the Demon as one of the most powerful muscle cars ever produced. The Demon is fitted with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that cranks out 808 to 840 brake horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque. The Demon goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds.
Meanwhile, the NHRA has also certified that the car can cover a quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph. Dodge has limited the Demon’s production to 3,300 examples, with 3,000 going to the U.S. market and 300 units offered to the Canadian market.
3 2020 Dodge Charger Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition
The 2020 Charger Daytona 50th Edition is a fitting tribute to the 1969 Charger Daytona. The car adds 10 horsepower to its supercharged engine, giving its 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V8 engine a total output of 717 horses and 650 pound-feet of torque.
The production of the car has been limited to 501 units to match the total number of the 1969 Charger Daytonas ever produced, according to a press release. Dealers started taking orders for this limited-edition car back in 2019 and there is a chance that all the units have already been sold.
2 2020 Dodge Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition
To celebrate the Challenger’s 50th year, Dodge has come out with limited production 50th Anniversary Edition that is available on the R/T Scat Pack Shaker, R/T Scat Pack Shaker Widebody, R/T Shaker, and GT RWD trims. This edition also marks the first time that the Shaker hood scoop would be available on the Widebody trim.
As for the engine, you have a choice between the 392 HEMI V8 that delivers 485 horses or the 5.7-liter V8 that produces 375 horses. In total, only 70 of each color would be available for each trim.
1 2021 Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak
It may still be an upcoming model, but we already know how rare the 2021 Challenger Mopar Drag Pak is going to be. According to a press release, the production will be limited to just 50 examples. What’s more, the car would feature a serialized badge that shows the car’s one-of-50 build sequence number.
The car is also said to be the most powerful Challenger Mopar Drag Pak ever built with its upgraded supercharged HEMI V8 engine. The reservation for this limited-edition car started earlier this month and even with an MSRP of $143,485, we’re pretty sure the slots will be gone soon.
