Classic examples of the Chevrolet Corvette are always highly sought after. Perhaps less so when we are looking at examples of the car from the early 2000s to, say, the 1970s. But, there is still a lot of interest in this generation of Corvette. Especially when it comes to this one. Currently listed on Bring a Trailer, this is a 2001 Corvette C5 Z06 that was then converted into a track car in 2001 by Phoenix Performance of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

A Unique Take On The Z06

This car was first converted not long after its build, and then it was further modified by the current seller in 2020 after they acquired it. The car is now modified for use in Spec Corvette competition, and it is in this state that the car is being sold.

Bodywork wise, the car is in all-black, and it features the mesh grille inserts of the Z06 and is in fixed-roof form, the only way in which the C5 Z06 was actually offered. There are some changes to the bodywork such as the rear spoiler from Trackspec Motorsports as well as the hood vents, and the car apparently has a replacement windshield.

The Chevrolet Is A Menacing Looking Race Car

This Corvette truly is a menacing looking machine, with its black livery, black wheels and the red interior and roll-cage. The wheels themselves are multi-spoke 18-inch Forgestar wheels with 315/30 Nankang tires.

The car has also had some brake modifications, including front cooling ducts and a Wilwood big brake kit with slotted front rotors. And if we look inside the car, there is still the factory dash and console assembly, but most of it is now stripped, with the red-painted interior surfaces exposed. The car has a Phoenix Performance roll cage and a single Sparco racing seat.

Under the hood of this racing Corvette is a 5.7-liter LS6 V8 engine, that again was also installed thanks to Phoenix Performance. This was in place of the factory LS6 V8 engine that the car originally had. There is a racing specification radiator and an Accusump oil accumulator on the car too, plus remote oil and transmission coolers.

This car has a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. And this Z06 racer also comes with logbooks, and as per the seller, the car fits specifications for SCCA Touring 1 and NASA Super Touring 3 classes.
