Volkswagen has become almost synonymous with West Germany’s regeneration and the post-World War II economic miracle. For decades, VW has dominated the Western markets thanks to its cars that were responding to the needs of different consumers. Moreover, several of the Volkswagen models have become symbols of their times, influencing various generations. From the quirky Beetle that turned into a global success and even inspired “America’s art cat movement,” to the Type 2 Transporter, which was a timeless icon and a representation of the counterculture movement, various Volkswagen cars have become timeless. But more recently, the German brand has destroyed its reputation because of consumer and emission scandals.

In this context, VW has tried to make a comeback, hoping to revive the dormant brand, but new controversies and shady practices came to light, so the German automaker had to innovate and start from scratch. Thus far, this strategy has worked and VW has released various models that received a warm welcome from the public. For example, the VW ID Buzz generated interest and the 2022 ID.4 is forecasted to have quite a success with the public. With that being said, the 2022 ID.4 is a reasonable option for young families who don’t want to break the bank buying an SUV.

The best update is that the maximum VW boosted the DC charging rate to 135 kW from 125 kW. At the same time, the powerful ID.5 GTX variant will have the fast charging capacity increased to 150 kW. This means that drivers won’t lose too much time on charging their vehicles, especially when they have a busy daily routine. Additionally, the EPA-estimated range was also improved to reach 280 miles. Back in 2021, the ID. 4 could go between 240 and 260 miles on a single charge, as for EPA estimates. Lastly, the charging experience is becoming less complicated at Electrify America stations. It is worth noting that Volkswagen offers 36 months of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America DC Fast chargers at no additional cost.

There is so much to love about the 2022 ID.4. First, we love that VW assembled it at Chattanooga, TN. This creates jobs for American workers and helps the local economy. Furthermore, the price is more affordable, considering that Volkswagen built the cars locally. But that’s not all!

In fact, this all-wheel-drive is also a super practical vehicle, made for commuters and young families that are looking for an affordable EV SUV that doesn’t break the bank. Furthermore, the 2022 ID.4 is packed with amazing safety features, such as emergency assist, adaptive cruise control (ACC), front and lane assist, active blind spot monitor and rear traffic alert. The tech features aren’t too shabby either, and the cabin looks futuristic and elegant. The 12-inch touchscreen display is voice activated, so drivers won’t get distracted during their trip and will focus on the ride. Volkswagen also offers a complimentary 3-month trial subscription to the SiriusXM Platinum Plan and a 36-month free plan for Car-Net which can be activated with the myVW app.

Design-wise, this SUV is as beautiful as it gets. The panoramic fixed glass roof, LED taillights, and striking body lines are just some features that catch the onlooker’s attention instantly.

With the current inflation and price hikes, we are happy to take any freebie we get, even if that comes as a tax credit at the end of the year. Luckily, the 2022 ID.4 comes with an amazing “handout,” as until now, it remains eligible for the federal EV tax credit. Evidently, things are changing fast and there’s no guarantee that in the upcoming months, the Internal Revenue will continue to provide a credit for qualified vehicles. So far, the $7,500 tax credit is still available, but let’s not forget that the US government limits each automaker to 200,000 eligible units.

Aerodynamics, powertrain, design, safety and tech features are all good and interesting, but in the end it all comes down to pricing and affordability. Aston Martin DBR22 is incredibly powerful and has a dramatic design, but most of us can’t afford such an exotic vehicle, so it is safe to say that price is the ultimate consideration when buying a new car.

Fortunately, Volkswagen understood that; thus, the German automaker hasn't retailed the 2022 ID.4 at an unreasonable price. With a starting MSRP of roughly $41,000, the 2022 ID.4 is an excellent investment, especially for young families and Millennials who are commuting.
