French manufacturer Bugatti is well known for producing some of the most powerful and exclusive hypercars in existence. The company produces low volumes of cars each year and aims to exceed the expectations of its discerning customers. To achieve this, Bugatti has an in-house customization program known as "Bugatti Sur Mesure", which can produce personalized Bugatti creations.

Many car manufacturers offer personalization services; however, the level of expertise of their craftsmen and their desire to satisfy the buyers are what really set them apart. If there was ever a demonstration of this, surely the "Lady Bug" Divo has to be it. Here are 10 reasons why the one-off Bugatti Divo "Lady Bug" truly is extra special.

Amazingly, given the man-hours invested into the project, Bugatti was seeking to meet the request of a single customer. The unknown customer is believed to be from the US, and having already amassed a sizable hypercar collection, desired something more bespoke.

They certainly achieved their aim, the design would be extremely difficult to replicate as evidenced by the development time and is a true one-off.

The intricate geometric design is in fact formed by a lattice of diamonds. In total, there are around 1,600 creating the striking pattern.

Powered by an insanely brutish 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine, every Divo is seriously special. The powerful unit generates a colossal 1,479 hp, befitting its hypercar status.

6 Time Was Spent On The Creation

While custom creations generally require a certain amount of bespoke effort, the Lady Bug takes this to another level.

Such was the technical challenge presented by the design, Bugatti's engineers had to work overtime. The entire creation took two brain-draining years to produce. A large proportion of this time was spent purely on the graphics.

5 It Was Almost Given Up On

The challenge almost proved too much to bear, and this is really saying something given the expertise Bugatti has within their company.

The main issues surrounded how to accurately reproduce essentially a 2D geometric pattern, to a curvaceous 3D object. What appears to be a simple wrap job, proved to be anything but, with the diamonds becoming distorted around the car's silhouette. Eventually, the frustration became excruciating, and Bugatti was very close to abandoning the project.

4 Crazy High Top Speed

The Lady Bug's energetic W16 is mated to a heavy-duty, fast-shifting, 7-speed automatic transmission.

The combination enables the Lady Bug Divo to rocket from 0-60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, before continuing on to a massive 236 mph top speed. Significantly faster than the insect that inspired it, which can reach around 37 mph.

3 Handcrafted

One of the most special things about the bespoke Lady Bug is the craftsmanship involved in its creation. To achieve the striking look, Bugatti eventually opted to spray the entire car crimson red. They subsequently hand placed a transfer film across the body, which when removed left diamond-shaped cut-outs.

Once it had been confirmed the diamonds were in the correct place, Bugatti's craftsmen hand sprayed the graphite paint. Upon completion, the diamond cut-outs had to be delicately peeled off to reveal the red beneath.

2 Produces High Levels Of Downforce

In order to extract maximum performance, Bugatti's design team focussed heavily on the Divo's aerodynamics. The car has been tuned to generate maximum downforce. Bugatti sought to develop the blueprint provided by the Chiron.

To achieve their aim, the rear of the Divo incorporates a larger, hydraulically assisted rear wing, a wider front spoiler, and a new rear diffuser. These changes mean that the Divo generates a huge 456 kg of downforce, around 90 kg more than the Chiron.

1 Two Main Complementary Colors

The whole design centers around just two colors. Both are metallic and designed to contrast – but in a complementary way.

The first is a bespoke customer-chosen crimson red, covering the majority of the body, and the second is graphite, used for the outlines of the diamonds. When paired together, the result is truly stunning, and the likeness to the insect it was named after is obvious.
