The Lamborghini Urus has impressed us greatly since it launched back in 2018, becoming one of the fastest SUVs on the planet as well as one of the most striking to look at. It has also served as the basis for many influencers and enthusiasts to modify to their heart's content. Lamborghini has been keen to push the limits of the awesome SUV, and they have taken an example to the Days of Speed event on the ice of Lake Baikal. With 18-time Days of Speed Russian record-holder Andrey Leontyev at the wheel, Lamborghini set the 1,000-meter record at the event.

Practice Runs Were A Prelude To The Record Run

The SUV performed a few practice runs before its record-breaking attempt, and during those runs, it achieved a maximum speed of 302 km/h or around 188 mph. Despite going slower than that in its record run, that is still an impressive top speed on an icy lake. The actual record run was recorded at 298 km/h which equates to just over 185 mph. During that run, there were significant warnings of the ice on the lake, but that did not stop the Urus from powering through and setting its record run.

The Urus Provided A Stable Platform Despite The Conditions

The official data of the runs have been registered by both the FIA and the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF). Lamborghini says that the Urus proved exemplary on the ice. It put in an outstanding performance and despite the conditions, it was exceptionally maneuverable despite not just the slippery conditions on the ice, but also the reduced traction that came with that as well as the windy conditions and the strong gusts that threatened to unsettle the Urus.

Konstantin Sychev, Head of Lamborghini Eastern Europe and CIS said, “This extreme challenge has once again proven that the Urus Super SUV delivers the inherent performance expected of a Lamborghini in terms of acceleration and top speed as well as handling, to unlock any road: be it a highway, off-road route or even ice.”

Event Is All About Breaking Records On Ice

The event itself was held between March 10-13 and is organized by the LAV-Racing company. The whole ethos of the event is to set world records on the ice of the lake, and it is required to conform to the regulations of both the FIA and the RAF. Photos from Lamborghini show the Urus being put through its paces on its way to that record-breaking speed.
