The guys at RestoMods tuning house recently concluded their Drag Racing Matchups at Barona, California with loads of souped-up classic muscle cars crashing the party. The event also saw the presence of a wild 1955 Chevy Bel Air Gasser that was popping wheelies and, on the flip side, a bone-stock Porsche Taycan electric car as well!

RestoMods stated that there was close to $20 million worth of modified classic cars, and it sure turned out to be an adrenaline-pumped day. There were some very interesting drag races, pitting the past and present.

While most of the cars present at the event were classic machines, iconic German sports cars, and modern American muscle were also very much the highlight of the event. Collaborators and friends of RestoMods also came out with sick nitrous and drag motorcycle builds, and it included the likes of a Harley-Davidson, a Suzuki Hayabusa, and a Suzuki GSX.

Freedom Street Garage was also their sinister-looking giveaway 2022 Chevy Camaro ZL1 which shook us in its race with a 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The Camaro got to race its iconic 60s ancestor - a 1969 Chevy Camaro. This was RestoMod's second Drag Racing Matchups event, and we can see how addictive it has already gotten! It would be a clever idea to follow RestoMods and enjoy future installments of their exciting Drag Racing MatchUps.

Apart from having close to $20 million worth of modified classic muscle cars, the RestoMods Drag Racing Matchups also included wild and unassuming participants like a wheelie-popping gasser, a bone-stock Porsche Taycan, and a bunch of nitrous superbikes. It was wild!

Interesting Custom Cars And Bikes At RestoMods Race Day

RestoMods went completely old-school, and their fleet included cars like the 1969 Chevy Chevelle, 1969 Dodge Charger, 1968 Pontiac GTO, 1969 GMC 1500, and 1969 Chevy C-10 pickup. RestoMods also had a few of their friends over who made the event more interesting with their army of modified monsters.

The dudes from SOS Customz chimed in with a 1969 twin-turbo Chevy Camaro, a sick-looking 1972 Datsun 240Z, a beautiful 1060 Ford Mustang Fastback, and a 2007 Chevy Z06 Corvette. The guys at Garage Collective were there to showcase German brawn with a 1988 BMW E30 3-Series and a 1970 Porsche 911T.

Other sick cars at the event included a 1969 HEMI Dodge Charger R/T with some serious mods, and an even wilder 1,100 HP Chevy Camaro. It wasn't just cars, as the RestoMods Drag Racing Matchups also included wild modified motorcycles.

These include a nitrous Harley-Davidson and two insane Japanese builds - a 2015 Gen-2 Suzuki Hayabusa drag build called G2 Sub-Zero, and a 2005 Suzuki GSXR-1000 drag machine.

1967 Chevy Chevelle Vs Porsche Taycan: Past Vs Future

This was the most interesting drag race at the event because seldom do we see a classic fire-breathing muscle car take it out with a modern-day silent torque monster. While in stock form, the Taycan would have obliterated the classic Chevelle, but there were explosive surprises under Chevy's hood!

While the details of the mods are not clear, the classic muscle car managed to outrun the all-electric Taycan in all three runs and clocked the quarter-mile in under seven seconds in all. But the Porsche was not very far behind either.

1969 Chevy Camaro Vs 2022 Chevy Camaro ZL1: Evolutionary Face-Off

Two Chevy Camaros from two extreme timelines came together in this ancestral face-off! The Camaro ZL1 is a giveaway machine by Freedom Street Garage and was stock. It packs a 6.2-Liter supercharged V8 with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. The 1969 Camaro was no slouch either as it packed in a twin-turbocharged LS3 engine.

While performance numbers were unclear, the LS3 is capable of churning out anything from 411 hp to over 1000 horses! But in the end, it was the modern muscle that won, as it came with a slick computer-optimized gearbox which the stick-shift classic Camaro couldn't keep up with.

1969 Dodger Chargers - The Power Of Modifications

A similar face-off to the Camaros, this was a batter of classic 1969 Dodge Chargers. One packed subtle mods, but the other was packing some serious muscle. We aren't sure of the performance figures, but it was way above a stock '69 Charger R/T with a 500 cu-in motor that churned 425 horses.

And we suspect that RestoMods' green Charger was either closer to stock or had some tuning issues. We say that because the gap between these two Chargers was insane! The modified gray Charger R/T destroyed RestoMod's green Charger.

A Very "Blue" GMC Truck Vs Dodge Charger

RestoMods' Charger was indeed modified but ran into trouble at the drag strip. And so to give it a fair fight, the Dodge was pitched against a very "blue" classic GMC pick-up which was clearly stock. The Dodge Charger was able to maintain a huge lead and finished the drag with a whooping 3+ seconds lead!

A wild 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Gasser: The Show-Stopper

We have reserved the best for the last. The event was graced by a hooliganistic Gasser based on the classic Chevy Bel Air which we find it hard not to call - "The Green Goblin". It was a wild wheelie-popping monster, hence the pet name by us! The mean-green Gasser packed a 588 cu-in big block engine with straight axles and put on some serious show at the RestoMods Drag Racing event.
