It has been over a decade since the production of the Porsche Type 996 ended, but it can now receive the vaunted Porsche Classic treatment.

Perhaps to demonstrate how it could restore a Type 996, Porsche Classic created the 911 Classic Club Coupe for the Porsche Club of America (PCA).

An Exterior Designed To Reflect The Past

The Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe started as a Porsche 911 Carrera 996 (1998), which PCA Executive Director Vu Nguyen found in Colombia, Virginia. He sent the donor car to Porsche Classic’s workshop in Germany, where it would undergo a meticulous restoration process.

Borrowing the chassis, brakes and the 381 hp naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine of the 996.2 911 GT3, the 911 Classic Club Coupe comes to life with a Sport Grey Metallic exterior. Light Sport Grey Metallic stripes (with Club Blue outlines) run from the hood to the rear spoiler, in reference to the Type 997 911 Sport Classic. Its sides feature light Sport Grey accents with Club Blue lines and “Classic Club Coupe” script.

The 911 Classic Club Coupe has a motorsport-derived double-dome roof as well as a rear spoiler shaped like the legendary “ducktail” of the 1972 911 RS 2.7. Tail lights flank the model designation “Classic Club Coupe.” The one-of-one project rides on 18-inch forged aluminum Fuchs wheels. Interestingly, the double-bubble roof and the fixed rear spoiler were both hand-made.

Custom door sill plates with the model name greet incoming passengers to an interior wrapped in black leather with Slate Grey accents. Seat centers and door panels feature woven black and gray leather, while the headliner is in perforated Alcantara. Porsche had to match new materials with the geometry of the Type 996 interior.

The cabin pretty much employs Club Blue stitching, including the steering wheel while the headrest embroidery reads “911 Classic Club Coupe,” which is also found in the tachometer. Porsche equipped the Classic Club Coupe with Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus. The model’s start screen shows “Classic Club Coupe” while its dashboard features the “No. 001/001” badge.

To ensure that the 911 Classic Club Coupe complies with applicable regulations in the United States, Porsche assembled a team of experts to evaluate its technical modifications. Porsche also had a test vehicle undergo various testing. After which, Porsche dismantled the test vehicle to ensure the product is truly a one-off.
