Richard Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage are celebrating not only their 500th Youtube video, but they have also finally hit their goal of 1,000,000 subscribers to their YouTube channel. In return, they guys give us a full resurrection video for a 1966 Pontiac GTO.

The GTO recently appeared in the channel’s first find of the year video after sitting in a field for years without any use. The team has only one goal today, and it’s to get the Pontiac GTO running and driving.

Getting The Pontiac GTO's Engine To Turn Over

Rawlings reveals that this car originally would have had a 455 four-speed engine, but now has a 454 automatic, a swap that makes no sense to him. The previous owner said the car ran when he got it, so the Gas Monkey team is going to try to get it back up and running.

The plan is to turn it over by hand and see if it works. They start by putting in a fresh battery, adding water to the car, and greasing the original motor. It’s almost immediately evident that this engine is going to run, and after a few more attempts they manage to bring it back to life. They take it for a test drive and it does run and drive. However, this ex-dragster needs a lot more work.

Larry Phipps gets to work installing new spark plugs and fixing some issues on the car. There are a couple of leaks that need repairing and some new power steering jackets to install. He also needs to check the transmission fluid and timing so that he can get the car idling properly. After a long week of updates, it’s ready for its second test drive.

One minute into the test drive, the car runs out of fuel and it’s all downhill from there. Phipps can’t wait to get it back to the shop, and he suspects that the car’s carburetor or the accelerator pump that’s causing all these problems. A missing o-ring in the carburetor is the source of the problem, and after a simple replacement, they have a much smoother third test run.

The car makes it up through all the gears and even hits 50 MPH which is a huge improvement on the previous attempts. It’s now ready for Rawlings to take it for some burnouts.

After a quick clean-up and wash-down, this '66 Pontiac is ready to go. While there’s still a lot of work to do with this car, it’s now ready to go on to its next owner. Rawlings reveals that they are selling this car which would make an ideal project car.

It's a great day for Richard and the crew as they reach the milestone of 1,000,000 subscribers and 500 episodes.
