When it comes to characters in the automotive industry, there isn’t a stronger one than Richard Rawlings. The founder of Gas Monkey Garage knows a thing or two about cars and dealing, and he and the team have created some truly incredible machines over the years. One of the recent highlights has to be the Chevy Fleetline that his team revived, the first ever car that the garage worked on some 20 years ago.

This time around in his latest video, Richard Rawlings is back on the road and heading out to Oklahoma to check out some really special cars. This includes a 1962 Maserati, a 1974 Lamborghini Jarama and a Shelby GT350 with a few other cars around too like a Ferrari Dino. So this is all about wheelin’ & dealin’ for Rawlings as he looks to get some pretty rare cars at the best price possible. This is an astounding collection of cars, and given Rawlings recently sold pretty much everything in his collection, there is plenty of space at Gas Monkey Garage for a few new cars, whether they are all sold on or if Rawlings keeps them for himself.

Arriving In Oklahoma To Check Out The Rare Beasts

The first car that Rawlings sets his eyes on is a 1962 Maserati, a 3500 GT, and this car is very special. There are some issues such as third gear is out and the driveshaft is in the trunk. It does though fire up, so it is at least a starter even if it can’t really go anywhere. The car is apparently in the correct paint, and after looking around it, Rawlings goes and checks out the Shelby Mustang that is sat behind the Maserati.

This is a Shelby GT350, and it has no roof on it, so that’s a little different! Power steering and power brakes are two of the features of this particular car. The next car they come across is a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette split-window, another rare best with its true knock-off wheels. To see this just gathering dust and hidden away is rather sad. The interior though is pretty fantastic and in great condition, and it is certainly a good-looking car. The Maserati is the highlight though, with the owner asking some $200,000 for it.

That sum for the Maserati seems a little steep given Rawlings colleagues thinks at least $120,000 is thus needed to get the car back up and running. Rawlings is quite interested in at least the Corvette and the Shelby, and then they head off to look at the Lamborghini Jarama as well. Having spoken to Dennis Collins, Rawlings finds out that the Shelby is one of very few black-on-black cars, and one of 10 delivered to Playboy. So this is a very rare and exclusive car, perhaps as part of a promotion or giveaway from Playboy.

The Jarama might well be the highlight though of the collection Rawlings is looking at. Less than 400 were ever made, and it's become one of the most valuable classic Lamborghinis in the world. It last ran about 30 minutes ago, and the original color was a light green according to the person acting on behalf of the owner. A 6,000-mile Dodge Viper sat in this second location is another incredible sight, and again sad to see this car just gathering dust. An MG and an Austin-Healey are two more cars that Rawlings has come to check out, with the latter having an add-on Le Mans package on it.

The MGA is another stunning looking machine, and this pair of British classics are just begging for a new home. Both are in pretty decent condition too, and are two of the reasons that Rawlings came to check out the collection. The Jarama is then fired up, so Rawlings can listen to its 3.9-liter V12 engine, and he at least knows that this particular car is a runner. We can see Rawlings pondering all of the cars he has checked out and working out what he wants and for how much.

The owner of the cars is certainly asking a lot for these cars, and it's complicated by the fact the owner is performing surgery while Rawlings is visiting. Rawlings would like the Shelby for $85,000 and the Jarama for $50,000. The 1963 Corvette is another that Rawlings wants, for around the $130,000 mark. The owner though is not responding to the offers, and eventually he does get in touch and isn’t interested in what Rawlings did offer. He very much seemed to be a guy who just wanted to get the most money regardless of their condition. A little teaser though is that a part two of this adventure is coming next week, so maybe an offer was in fact accepted!
