We all know who Richard Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage are. In fact, how could you not know who they are? Over the years, Rawlings and his team have built, rebuilt and restored some absolutely amazing cars. In one of their latest videos, Rawlings and his team get to work on a 1968 Ford LTD to rebuild the car in around 9 hours, with just a $300 budget.

Brakes Seem To Be A Sticking Point

In the opening section of the video, one of Rawlings guys is working on the brakes as it sounds like they are a particular sticking point, so to speak. The car runs and drives, but it just doesn’t stop well, so hardly ideal. Rawlings though does run through his plans for the build. Rawlings is going to turn the LTD into a four-door version of the Thomas Crown Mustang, while dubbing it the Thomas Frown, as Rawlings does not think four doors are as cool as the two door. It is though going to take a lot of work on a $300 budget.

Getting To Work On The LTD

There is a lot of work to turn this LTD into a Thomas Crown clone. This not only involves mechanical work, but Rawlings gets on with cutting the roof off to leave just a section at the front and back, a la the Mustang they are copying. Under the hood, the team are removing the two-barrel intake manifold, putting a four-barrel on instead, replace the thermostat and water pump, and hopefully put about 50 extra horsepower on the car. That, and just a whole host of cosmetic features such as white stripes across the body.

The Finished Product

Rawlings said it would be a “sweet ass ride” when it's finished, and he is not wrong. The end of the video rolls along and out comes this epic looking LTD spitting flames, and doing doughnuts in the carpark. Gone is the roof, and gone is the slightly grubby exterior. In its place is an epic looking car with white stripes across the center and the sides, with its roaring V8 loud enough to wake the dead. In an ironic twist, though, Rawlings and the guys lose the brakes after its first run, with a brake line, breaking. Quite funny as that was the first job Rawlings team was completing at the start of the video!
