If there's one thing that's becoming clear about electric cars, it's that they can be incredibly fast. Since EV drivetrains are much simpler, there's typically less wasted energy, lag, and inertia than internal combustion engines. This means that power is delivered to the wheels immediately after the driver steps on the accelerator, resulting in some of the quickest accelerating cars ever recorded.

Over the last decade, many powerful electric vehicles have been introduced, with some aiming to break the speed records set by gas-powered cars. Although Tesla has been the industry leader, both new and legacy manufacturers are catching up, leaving consumers with multiple blistering quick EVs options. The following are ten of the fastest non-Tesla EVs available today.

10 Jaguar I-Pace - 124 mph

Jaguar has always been at the forefront of the newest automotive technologies, so it was no surprise when it produced the first real competitor to Tesla's EV lineup - the I-Pace. The I-Pace is sort of a crossover-SUV combo with all the design elements one would expect in an EV; an elongated wheelbase, a spacious cabin with more rear legroom, storage fore, and aft, and shortened front and rear overhangs.

As its name suggests, the I-Pace is a high-speed car that takes just 4.5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph and has a top speed of 124 mph. It also has a 90-kWh battery with an impressive range of 292 miles.

9 Spark-Renault SRT_01E - 140 mph

Thanks to a weight of just 900 kg, the Spark-Renault SRT_01E will hit 62 mph in under 3 seconds and go on to reach a top speed of 140 mph, making it one of the fastest cars in the EV segment. To maintain high-performance levels, this car also features a gearbox from British firm Hewland, 18-inch treaded tires from Michelin, and a battery pack from Williams.

8 Porsche Taycan Turbo S - 162 mph

Porsche is no stranger to making iconic cars; after all, it did come up with the greatest sports car of all time, the 911. As such, everyone had high expectations when Porsche announced that it would be making its first-ever fully electric vehicle, and it met every one of those expectations with the amazing Taycan Turbo S.

As anyone would expect from a Porsche, the Turbo S is super-fast and takes just 2.8 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, thanks to a 751-hp electric motor. All this power comes from a 93.4 kWh battery pack with 235 miles of range.

7 Aston Martin Rapide E - 188 mph

Developed with the help of Williams Advanced Engineering, the Rapide E is Aston Martin's first all-electric car and arguably the most beautiful EV ever built. This car maintains the same gorgeous exterior and ultra-luxurious interior of its gas-powered brother- the Rapide- but replaces the huge V12 with an electric motor/battery set-up cranking out 612 horsepower.

It can go from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. Aston Martin plans to make just 155 examples of the Rapide E, each going for a whopping $330,000.

6 Nio EP9 - 194 mph

Nio is commonly referred to as the "Tesla of China." Looking at the EP9, it's obvious that the automaker means business. The EP9 has a beautiful, aerodynamic design, which Nio has claimed provides double the downforce of Formula One racecars. It has a range of 265 miles, after which drivers can either choose to recharge it fully for 45 minutes or swap the battery in 8 minutes.

Four motors power this vehicle, one for each wheel. They all combine to produce a massive 1,341 horsepower, allowing the EP9 to go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 195 mph. Interestingly, the EP9 holds the record for the fastest lap by an autonomous car.

5 Genovation GXE - 209 mph

The Genovation GXE is a Corvette-based electric car that held the fastest street-legal electric car record when it launched. It uses a C6-generation body, but everything else is new. For example, it has a custom chassis and drivetrain built by Genovation.

The GXE draws its power from a 60-kWh battery cranking out 800 horsepower and 718 pound-feet of torque, almost twice that of the gas-powered Corvette. This allows it to hit 60 mph in under three seconds with a top speed of 209 mph. The GXE's 175-mile range is disappointing for a car that costs more than $750,000, but it makes up for it with raw speed.

4 Rimac Concept One - 211 mph

Debuted in 2011, the Rimac Concept One is a super-fast electric hypercar that was way ahead of its time. It was built by a small Croatian company and made history when it became the fastest EV ever at its launch. However, most people know it as the car that Richard Hammond of the TV Show Grand Tour famously crashed in 2017.

It had a 90-kWh battery pack with a range of 310 miles and a power output of 1,224 horsepower, allowing it to hit 62 mph from a standstill in 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 220 mph. Rimac only made 88 examples, each selling for nearly $1 million.

3 Aspark Owl - 249 mph

Over the decades, Japanese automakers have earned every motoring purist's respect with iconic cars like the Toyota Supra, Nissan GT-R, and Subaru Impreza, to name a few. Although not many have heard of it, the Aspark Owl is another creation that shows just how amazing Japanese cars can be.

The fully-electric Battista is Pininfarina's first attempt at making a car of its own, and a successful one. It has the same battery pack as the Rimac C_Two - a 120 kWh system powering four in-wheel electric motors with a collective output of 1,877 horsepower. This gives it a sub-two-seconds

Unfazed by the negative publicity it got from Richard Hammond's Rimac Concept One crash, Rimac returned with an all-new electric supercar in 2018. Dubbed the C_Two, Rinac's new car is better than the first one in every way.

For example, the C_Two comes with four in-wheel electric motors that collectively produce an incredible 1,888 horsepower, giving the car a 0-62 mph time of 1.85 seconds and a 258-mph top speed. It also has a bigger 120 kWh battery pack with a range of up to 400 miles, though not at 258 mph. It also comes with an array of hi-tech features, including Level 4 autonomous driving and facial recognition.
