Rimac’s supercar is one of the most impressive electric cars ever made. The Concept One was already impressive enough, but the team has been working hard and diligently on the new Concept 2, a much-improved version of their original model. The company is based in Croatia, and they are incredibly happy that they are now advancing towards full-scale production of the Concept 2 ahead of a launch of the model in 2021 and they have already produced 12 experimental and validation examples of the Concept 2.

Six Pre-Series Models In Production

What’s under production currently then? There are six pre-series examples that are now in production in Veliko Trgovišće in Croatia, the location of the Rimac factory. These pre-series cars are quite close to the production examples, but they are not quite there. They are to be used to iron out any issues and to complete final tweaks before the full-scale production of Concept 2 begins. Various homologation tests need to be undertaken to ensure the cars are up to standard. And the likes of Nico Rosberg have been eagerly anticipating the new model. Rosberg was the first person outside of Rimac to drive the development prototype of the car.

So, how does the production of the cars work out? They take around eight weeks to be constructed, and then the assembly of them itself is five weeks, included in that original eight-week timeframe. It is a long and complex process, as the majority of the components are all undertaken in-house by Rimac, with very little outsourcing of components. And custom jigs are created to ensure that those components that are produced outside of Rimac’s factory are fitted without issue in the factory.

So, what power output can we expect from Concept 2? Nearly 2,000 hp is expected to come from its electric powertrain, and the exact figure is expected to be 1,914 hp; a 0-62 time is a rather eye-watering 4.3 seconds. By the time the car does hit our roads in production form, Rimac may even be able to exceed its own estimates, which would be an impressive achievement.
