Whether you love or hate electric cars, there is no denying their performance potential, especially when considering some modern EV sedans have no problem taking down Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1s. When manufacturers make EVs specifically for performance, the results get even more impressive.

With that in mind, many deem the Rimac Concept One to be the original electric hypercar and even after 10 years, it has the specs to back this up. This notorious electric performance vehicle is the subject of the latest video from the Petersen Automotive Museum. Read on to discover more about this stunning electric performance vehicle.

The History Of The Rimac Concept One Hypercar

Croatian automotive manufacturer Rimac had rather humble beginnings. Founder, Mate Rimac, started out in his garage when he was a teenager. After blowing the engine in his classic 1980s BMW E30 while racing, Mate decided on trying to replace the gasoline engine with an electric option. Things moved fast from that point and in 2015 his company produced the world's first electric hypercar.

This electric hypercar cost close to $1 million when it was originally released, but thanks to its fame and limited production, the car’s value has climbed since then. One of the remaining Concept One models went up for sale at $1.6 million in 2020. Only 8 were ever produced, and after the infamous Richard Hammond crash in Switzerland, there remain only 7 today.

Patrick goes on to discuss the performance and innovative features of this hypercar. The Rimac Concept One has serious power, with just under 1,100 hp. Thanks to its four electric motors, the Rimac Concept One can do 0-60 in approximately 2.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 221 mph. These remain seriously impressive figures almost a decade after development.
