When someone starts a project on a car, he or she starts with the body, the paint, the interior, and the engine. But the rims are also a very important part of the process. If a car gets all of the above, but it stands on some bad looking wheels at the end of it all, the entire design was in vain. There are a lot of companies that make stunning and awesome rims, some of them very expensive and others affordable. But everyone should keep in mind that the lower tuning level of a car (the wheels) is also really important.

However, there are also a lot of nasty wheels that can be seen mounted on cars, but the worst part is that the owners really like them and consider them the best from the rest. Some people don't have the designer’s eye to be able to make a perfect choice when it comes to a set of wheels that match the car. In addition, they don't ask for help from professionals because they believe they can handle it. Quite false actually. No one was born educated or knowing it all, but there are many that don't even accept this possibility as being true.

Here are a few of those questionable wheels that can make one’s car look very bad and without any character.

19 Dollar Bill Rims

via jalopnik.com

Impressive? Not. Expensive? Probably not in particular. But judging by the model, these Dollar-Bill rims would've wanted to represent the wealth of the owner of the car, but in a truly ugly way. One may believe that they're actually quite heavy, and maybe there's no doubt they are.

They're so full of dollar signs and bills that the brake discs are nowhere to be seen.

They should be ventilating in some way for the good of the brakes. However, these aren't an option if one is searching for a new set of rims, and their place on this list was properly earned.

18 The Wagon Wheels

via zercustoms.com

This Hummer is one of a kind, judging by the rims the owner chose to mount on it. This is a one-way ticket to the chariot period in history, when there were no tires and no asphalt roads. One may wonder how this huge and heavy car stands on these wooden wheels in the first place. And the second question would be: how can it be driven like that? Strange as it looks, it seems that the car was parked on that spot, so it arrived there somehow. This is one ugly and questionable choice for a set of rims.

17 Omega Devins (AKA Window Blinds)

via layitlow.com

Welcome to the world of home appliances. These wheels look like something taken from the house and placed in the rim circle while they were only modified to fit in there.

No ventilation for the brake discs, no room to see what's going on inside the wheel, nothing!

Only shiny and chromed stuff, but no imagination or practical thoughts. How can this be possible for a rim producer and designer? How can someone make a rim without thinking if it can be fitted without any problem on a car? And people bought them! What a shame for Omega.

16 Ceiling Light

via cardomain.com

This type of rims represent the donk cars, the donk style, but they could easily be used as ceiling light plates in a house, according to Rims and Tires Mag. This culture is one of the most hated in the automotive industry. A donk is a classic car or a modern muscle car with a set of huge wheels and a very high ground clearance, according to Jalopnik. The big wheels represent the idea of making a lot of money and bragging about it, nothing more. This thing originates from the 1990s, and it started with 20-inch chrome or spinner wheels.

15 Envy Monolith

via 300cforums.com

This is another metal plate-style rim that offers one the possibility to check the brakes of his or her car without having the wheels removed. This type of rim would be fitted on a dotcom billionaire car, according to Jalopnik. Even if that was the case, why would a person offer money for this strange chrome line model that makes the car bling at any corner?

It wouldn't stand out from the crowd in a good way.

In fact, everyone would mumble and make fun of it in any way they can. Paint the car in a strange colour, and it would be just perfect.

14 Enkei Spider

via jalopnik.com

According to Jalopnik, the Spider rim model was thought to be a limited edition made by Enkei, but because they're not produced anymore, they can only be purchased on eBay, on a special center hubcap. This would only be the case if one needs a set of expensive and really ugly rims to mount on a car. This model wouldn't look good even if it was fitted on a classic car because it would destroy its appearance completely. Not everything that's expensive is also beautiful and appreciated. These wheels have a special place on this list, and they've earned it.

13 Las Vegas

via ldnfashion.com

When this type of rim appeared, the GA (Gamblers Anonymous) strongly opposed it, according to Rims and Tires Mag. Again, why would someone design such an awful model of a wheel? And who would want it on his or her car? One explanation would be to attract more attention; another reason would be to represent the gambling world if the owner of the car is a gambler by nature. However, the main idea is that the model isn't the best choice for a set of rims. The main idea is that once mounted on a car, it would seem to have been taken straight out of a gambling room.

12 Status Grinder

via wheels.xxxautohaus.com

According to Rims and Tires Mag, the Status Grinder was designed by the house appliances division and they're nearly quite as ugly as Vision Morgana, but not that much, though.

With a closer look, it would seem that a change of calipers would be a lot easier to be made, even without removing the wheel.

There's also a picture on the Internet in which it can be observed that the wheel was mounted on backward. This can cause a lot of problems and safety issues for the owner. However, this cannot be called a rim; it's actually a metal plate centred in a circle.

11 BMW i3 Base Wheel

via thetruthaboutcars.com

According to Auto Guide, not even one model of rims that were mounted on the BMW i3 is pretty enough, but this one exceeds them all. The unstylish real estate and the bare silver finish of these wheels make the car look even more controversial than it already is. There's a trend for hybrid and electric vehicles to have wheels like these, strange-looking and almost full of material. Unfortunately, this thing doesn't save the day but makes it worse because people look at all the details before they buy such a car at such a price.

10 Honda CR-V

via motortrend.com

Even if this is an original design kind of, the 17-inch wheels mounted on the Honda CR-V aren't the most beautiful ones that exist. This model can be found on the CR-V’s upper-end trim levels, but at a closer look, it's kind of juvenile, according to Auto Guide.

Unfortunately, some of the new car models have received some strange-looking wheels.

However, there's always the possibility to redesign them if the producer finds out that people don't consider them fancy or good-looking. The brushed aluminum look saves the day a little, but that's not enough.

9 Tesla Model 3 Aero Wheel

via teslarati.com

Tesla considered it was time to throw away their stylish look in favour of efficiency, according to Auto Guide. The new model of aero wheels mounted on the Tesla Model 3 resembles a sand dollar. Even if one would pull off the aero cover, the rather simple-looking alloy rim that can be seen underneath is kind of sad actually. On Tesla’s official website, it's mentioned that the owners who prefer to remove those covers can find hubcaps. This can only mean that the producer admits the strangeness of the wheels and subtly suggests a way to make them look a little better.

8 Maybach Sawblade

via twitter.com

Why would an automotive producer mount such rims on a modern Italian car? Once technology started to evolve, the rims producers started to make more and more interesting models, but it seems that not all of them have design in their blood. The Maybach Sawblade is one of those models.

The car would've looked better with a set of five-pointed star rims, for example, or even wheels with spokes.

According to Auto Guide, there are a few people who love this model and others who find them unsuitable for the car.

7 Turbo Fan

via autoevolution.com

These wheels would like to mimic the idea of a turbofan, but unfortunately, the result was something quite awful. According to Rims and Tires Mag, even if the colour was changed, the weird output is still evident. It seems like the designer took a classic wheel from a classic car and modified it a little bit to create a modern rim, but it didn't work well. Besides the fact that people look for concave wheels or rims with lips nowadays and that this model departs from that trend, nothing helps it to look at least a little better.

6 Asanti Skin Series

via cars.ro

Jalopnik wanted to remind everyone of the horrid things that happened during the height of the bling craze back in history. Asanti, the wheel producer, thought it would be an interesting and innovative thing to do if they placed ostrich leather on their new rims.

No one should ever forget this period, and it should be considered a dark time in the history of wheels.

Why do such a thing? The Skin Series should truly be placed on the ugliest-rims list, along with other fails from back in the days. Did they not think of the consequences of leather placed on a wheel?

5 Chevy Cavalier Z24 Wheels

via flickr.com

What on Earth was General Motors thinking when they decided to mount such wheels on an '80s car, the Chevrolet Cavalier Z24. This model of rims seems to be made based on a cheap tile that could be found in a public toilet or maybe even on a chess table (the center kind of resembles the chess tables from a public park). Jalopnik believes that the effect produced by the launch of these OEM wheels was more negative simply because they were offered by the producer itself and not as an aftermarket choice. However, not many people own such a car nowadays, so it should be safe.

4 Vision Morgana

via autocredit.com

This is a vision from the worst nightmares, as Jalopnik states. These are worse than the Status Grinder model, and they're the third type of metal-plate rims that producers thought would be appreciated by the public.

This rim doesn't protect the wheel from anything.

If a friend wants to make a joke, he or she can dismount something over there without any problem, and no one will know. How about that? Vision Morgana was also a fail, just like the other two rims that resemble it. What were they thinking when they designed them? If they wanted something new, they should've created something less ugly.

3 Forgiato Parlaro

via flatout.com

It should be noted that the Forgiato Parlaro rims look great on paper, but in reality, this doesn't apply, according to Jalopnik. Unfortunately, the whole lineup designed by Forgiato represents proof of this idea. The design looks quite impressive when seen with a white background and simply printed, but placed on a car, it gets truly complicated and unfortunate. There are plenty of ideas on how to design rims that can actually fit on any car or on some models, but this one is definitely not one of them. Do think twice before buying these.

2 Arelli Assassin

via cardomain.com

According to Jalopnik, the Arelli Assassyn assassinates the car it's mounted on, besides the fact that the name is spelled wrong. It's a bad choice for a rim design, just like the rest of the items on this list. There's no beginning and no end for these wheels. If one would like a nice set of rims, he or she should choose something else and maybe talk to a few people who are in the industry and who know what would fit on the customer’s car. These wheels should be avoided at all costs, most of all because it's sure that they're some heavy pieces, judging by the looks.

1 Elbows

via kinja.com

This type of wheels are very popular in Houston, Texas, but even if they see these Swangas as some cool choice for a set of rims, the chariots don't exist anymore, and Spartacus is long gone, according to Jalopnik.

Not only are they extremely strange, but they're also dangerous.

Europe decided not to welcome them for a reason, obviously because someone could get hurt while a car with such rims passes by. Think of a small parking spot between two cars, maybe at the mall, where the car in this picture would surely not fit. What would this be like?
