RM Sotheby's has been postponing its auction events recently amid the global coronavirus pandemic, but one lot coming out of Elkhart, Indiana, might just represent an opportunity for thrill-starved collectors to get in on some classic British action. The so-called "Elkhart Collection" is a collection of over 230 cars, trucks, motorcycles, and trailers alongside plenty of memorabilia from one of automotive history's greatest eras. Perhaps few of the cars on auction typify the unique set of lots quite as well as a 1972 Austin Mini Pickup, one of many Minis that are offered for sale.

So Cute

Most gearheads are acquainted with the Mini Cooper in all its guises and under all its different marques over the decades. But international markets know that the Mini name also included products like a van and a pickup truck, albeit in much smaller numbers than the iconic little hatchback made famous in the two versions of The Italian Job. The Mini Pickup shares its chassis with the Van, though it has an open bed in place of the covered rear canopy.

Pristine Condition

Photos in the listing reveal a truck that looks almost brand-new. Under the hood rests a 1,275cc four-banger fed by dual SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Exterior features include the wood-slat pickup bed and tailgate, as well as Talbot-style rearview mirrors on both sides. On the inside, a Mountney steering wheel fronts a gorgeous wood dash that has received a Clarion sound system with CD player and Blaupunkt speakers.

Not A Work Truck

Undoubtedly, anyone bidding on this little truck won't be about to head to the lumber yard to pick up plywood. With a total length of only 11 feet and a curb weight of only 1,500 pounds, yard work is pretty much out of the question, as well. And yet, production figures managed to reach 58,179 units, so plenty of people clearly thought a truck of this size was useful enough to warrant a purchase.
