Rolls-Royce is one of the best ever car manufacturers, producing classics such as the Phantom and Ghost. But cars are not all the company is famous for. They also produce engines, most famously aircraft engines, the most famous possibly being the Rolls-Royce Merlin that powered the mighty Spitfire. They have now revealed their latest engine, something a bit different. It is the MTU Series 2000 Yacht engine, and it produces an insane amount of power.

Serious Power Upgrade Translates To About 2,000 Horsepower

The engine itself is a high-performance engine, and the MTU engine has had a power upgrade thanks to this latest iteration of said engine. It is a 12-cylinder, series 2000 M96 engine and the power has gone up from 1432kW to 1472kW, which might not seem like a lot, but it is the equivalent of about 2,000 horsepower. So when it's put like that, it is a major power increase. What makes this engine stand out from the crowd is that it's incredibly quiet, has great acceleration characteristics, and provides brilliant maneuverability as well.

It should be no surprise that, from one of the kings of luxury cars, comes one of the best yacht engines out there. Denise Kurtulus, Head of Marine Business at Rolls-Royce's Power Systems Division said, “Thanks to our highly-regarded Series 2000 M96 high-performance yacht engine, we've long been an established player in the market. Now we've been able to boost the engine's output and thus its performance, without compromising its durability.”

The engine is specifically suited to certain boats, namely luxury yachts, and leisure fishing boats. Its very proportional size means it can offer great weight distribution in these vessels. And this power increase that Rolls-Royce has provided means they can respond better to the requirements of its customers, who now have an even more powerful engine on hand for them to use.

What makes things even better for customers is that the engine is now instantly available, and the first of the new engines have already been sold to shipbuilders Viking and OTAM. The engine is also supported by Premium Yacht Service, which is a global service program for yacht owners.
