Audi created luxurious road monsters with its RS models. They could compete against some of the quickest and fastest cars. Nonetheless, there are people who would like to see comparable Audi RS models drag race against each other. Interestingly, there are no better candidates for this race than the almost super twins: the Audi RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback.

RS7 Vs RS6: Same Mechanicals, Different Body Styles

This RS-vs-RS drag race was organized by CarWow's Mat Watson, who brought his very own RS6 to the runway. His RS6 is mechanically identical to the RS7. Both the super wagon and the liftback are powered by the same twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 mill, with 591 hp (600 PS) of max output and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of peak torque.

Aside from the V8 engine, both the Audi RS6 and RS7 share the same Quattro AWD system and the eight-speed automatic transmission (with launch control). Of course, there are differences, including the body style. Sitting higher to the ground, the RS7 outweighs the RS6 by 22 lbs.

Determining Which RS Model Is Quicker

The RS6 and RS7 first engaged in a quarter-mile drag race, with the strip soaking wet from the rain. The RS7 seemed to have a bad start (or slower driver reaction), allowing the RS6 to pull ahead. Nonetheless, the RS7 managed to gain ground, easily erasing the RS6's lead. However, while both RS models crossed the finish line at 11.6 seconds, the RS6 was ahead by a few feet.

Then, the RS models engaged in a best-of-three rolling races (from 50 mph). The first contest ended with the RS7 winning. In the second rolling race, both cars were in their sportiest settings and manual shifting mode. The RS7 looked prime to take the lead, but the driver botched a gear change, so the RS6 took the second round. The RS7 seemed to have won the third round, although the contest was neck-to-neck.

The Lighter RS7 Wins The Braking Contest

Lastly, the RS models took part in the braking contest from 70 mph. The RS7 won the contest by a hair, although Mat attributed the RS6's loss to his slower reaction time. To note, the 22-lbs advantage of the RS7 can be easily offset by extra weight, including that of the driver. Price-wise, though, the RS7 is a bit more expensive than the RS6.
