German customization and tuning house, RUF, has been around since 1939. That's almost as long as Porsche, which was established in 1931, whose cars they've long been associated with modding, tuning, and customizing into bespoke creations. But it wasn't until 1987 that they truly arrived on the international scene with the release of the RUF CTR "Yellowbird." With blistering acceleration, performance stats, and a top speed of 213 mph, there was no denying that the Pfaffenhausen, Germany based speed shop knew what they were doing.

They've expanded in recent years to produce a variety of one-off and custom creations. But they are a very low volume manufacturer and as such have to pick and choose where to put their resources and which projects to undertake. The RUF Porsche 911 SCR was released way back in 2018 at the Geneva Auto Show. And since then they've been hard at work on the car and have just taken the wraps off the first production example. It's something of a throwback and cross between a vintage 911 with modern performance and swagger to match. Let's take a look at the new RUF SCR.

Classic Design, All New Bones

From the exterior the car looks like a classic 964 gen 911 and that's no accident as RUF has been known for perfecting the 911 look for years now. But underneath it's an entirely new creation with an in-house designed and developed carbon fiber monocoque chassis, bodyshell, and integral roll cage. Not only does this make the car stiffer and more dynamic than a stock 911 but the weight has been brought down to a positively anorexic 2,756 lbs. RUF claims this enables the car to reach a top speed of 199 mph.

Under The Hood

But the mods and detail work don't stop there. Under the hood of the SCR is a 4 liter naturally aspirated flat-6 engine generating 503 hp at 8,270 rpm and 347 lb.-ft. of torque. As God himself, and Alois Ruf, intended a 6-speed manual transmission takes care of shifting duties.

On The Inside And Out

The look is unmistakably Porsche as interpreted by RUF. It's tough to improve upon perfection as the 911 is one of the most desirable shapes and automobiles in all of automotive history, but RUF manages to tweak it ever so subtly into a unique and better product. Starting at the front clip we see larger inlets and a generous front mesh grill. The more muscular haunches are apropos and the ducktail spoiler is one of the my favorites hearkening back to the old RS of the 70's.

On the inside, the SCR has a classic 911 ripped from the first gen car. The gauges are appropriate with simple analog units and smartly integrated modern tech. The seats, door panels, and headliner are finished in saddle hides with a charcoal checkered fabric pattern on the seats. Pricing has not been announced but you can be sure it'll run in the high six figures. Buckle up.
