There are so many reasons cars get abandoned or forgotten; life happens. When a classic car succumbs to this fate, it is particularly sad. So many people covet classic cars and would be willing to put in all their blood sweat and tears to restore such vehicles.

Again, life happens and although we all feel connected to vehicles this can also be part of the problem. People will hold on to a car when they simply don’t have the time, resources, or skill to get the car roadworthy. Sometimes it is better to let go of something, either to help others with much-needed parts or hand over a project gathering dust.

Here are 10 cars that we hope will find their way to new owners before it really is too late.

10 Porsche 911

The sheer demand for classic 911s means no matter the condition, there is some sort of value to them. This example buried in weeds looks fantastic from this angle, but when something looks too good to be true it likely is.

Sitting here in a middle-class neighborhood it could well be somebody's stalled project but in this sort of condition, the more likely theory will have something to do with legal misconduct.

It is hard to believe a car that has been in demand for so long could reach this sad state. It looks to be mostly surface rust, but that could just be optimism talking as there is so much surface rust it is very difficult to assess just from this photo what is going on underneath.

This car, in the right condition, is worth as much as $1 million! Right now, it looks at best a parts car, at worst a boat anchor.

Finally, a sad story with a happy ending. This barn find is in astonishingly good shape, the owner found it in a shed and got the long-forgotten beauty running and driving again.

Parked for almost 20 years by his grandmother’s cousin, he knew the value of the vehicle and made sure it stayed in their family for years to come.

With cars that have a certain “patina” skyrocketing in value these days, this could still fetch a princely sum. It seemingly has the wrong kind of patina, the kind that makes an awful mess of the quarter panels, adding an awful lot of time, money, and effort to the build!

It is still a Boss, with for now at least, original paint and arguably the worst wheels ever put on a Mustang. So, it is likely worth all the time, money, and effort.

This Lotus seems to have been casually parked, then even more casually forgotten. It seems to have met a rather unexpected end here next to this tree, but not too surprising considering their checkered reliability.

Although immortalized thanks to some underwater exploits in a certain Bond film, they were never reliable in any way, shape, or form.

5 Jaguar E-Type

One of THE most desirable classic cars today, the old Jag has officially reached cult status. Even this sad puddle of rust will be worth something, especially if the necessary paperwork for the vehicle is intact. If somebody took this photo, there is somebody with the necessary resources currently getting to work on this car, such is the popularity.

With both restomods and fully restored versions collecting huge money at auction, we can only wish that someone will turn it into something resembling the picture above.

From this picture, although sad, the car seems to have lived a full life. Looking at the dented up rear end it wasn’t some coveted trophy, rather something that was used to its full potential then gracefully put out to pasture after fulfilling its purpose. We think this one can rust in peace.

Although, it would be great if someone decided to fix it up and perhaps turn it into an outlaw Porsche.

3 Aston Martin DB2

Another desirable car with ever so much potential. It will have hidden rust, and the old inline 6 is probably rusted so solid it will only be worth the going scrap metal rate.

Which would be the perfect excuse to make one beautiful restomod, as any Aston from this era in reasonable condition will fetch more than 6 figures.

2 Chevrolet Corvette

Whoever thought it was a good idea to make a gasser out of a Corvette clearly had more money than sense. This one gets a happy ending because she has already made her way out of the garden pictured here.

There is no engine in the car so the new owner will have a blank canvas to start with in that regard, it also won’t be that hard to get back to original condition considering the front suspension is lifted but otherwise stock - unlike most gassers of the time. Perhaps it will look something like the red Corvette above when it's done?

1 Toyota MR2

Here’s one for all the JDM fans out there. This little mid-engined sports car might not fetch the huge money some of the other classics on the list, but it is still a classic and it is still sad to see one that looks so discarded and forgotten. It literally looks like somebody went out for a drink one night, then woke up the next morning short a car.

It's a shame to see a Japanese classic car in this state. Hopefully, someone will have the sense to rebuild it to its former glory.
