If you can’t get to Germany, there’s a Nurburgring and pork-themed charity rally that’s basically the same thing.

Pork schnitzel is one of the greatest meals you can eat. Sadly, not all of us can head to Germany to get an authentic taste of fried pork cutlet. There’s also a super famous test and race track called the Nurburgring there, but we’re mostly focused on the deliciousness of fried pork.

Luckily, those of us in the United States have a slightly cheaper alternative if all you want is to drive around eating pork. It’s called The Tire Squeal, an annual charity event that takes place in Indiana, the fourth largest pork producer in the United States. A deep Germanic heritage has bestowed Indiana the gift of the “pork tenderloin”, a sandwich made from the aforementioned delicious fried pork cutlet between two buns.

As for the Nurburgring connection, well, here’s the charity organizers to explain things:

"Deep in Germany, there is a race track through the hills called the Nürburgring. You may have heard of it. Or, you may live deep in a cave. Either way, we’re pretty sure you don’t know we have our own ‘ring in Indiana. And, since it’s Indiana, it’s also larger than life--dwarfing the Nürburgring by 10 times. So large, in fact, that it has its own name: The Schweinefiletring™ (translation: Pork Tenderloin Ring)!"

Yes, there’s a German word for everything. And yes, this course is 175 miles of public roads rather than 17.5 miles of closed track. That said, it takes place on very scenic backroads covering much of Indiana, and has pit stops at delicious restaurants serving pork sandwiches all day long.

And as we mentioned, it’s all for charity. Ten percent of the proceeds generated from participating restaurants go towards Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana with the goal of raising $10,000. Participants also get prizes based on a point system that rewards them for each dollar of donations spent.

The top prize gets an Indy Racing Experience package, a track pass, a free balance and alignment package, and a trophy. Total value is over $2,000. There are also prizes for runner-ups and random draws throughout the event.

You can start anywhere on the route (it’s not really a race, per se), and you get points for taking pictures along the way. Also for eating pork tenderloin at participating restaurants.

The rally takes place from June 22nd to 23rd and is free to enter. Just make sure you’ve got a full tank of gas, a camera, and are hungry for a day of pork.
