This is an accident that might well make you wince and fearful for both the people and the cargo. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported from what looked like quite a nasty accident. This 18-wheeler in Houston, Texas was carrying some pretty high-performance machines such as a Ferrari SF90 Stradale and a classic Porsche 911 before it was struck by a train at a level crossing and suffered pretty major damage to the trailer.

Semi Got Stuck On An Unsuitable Crossing

A report from The Leader stated that the driver of the rig was attempting to cross the tracks at that particular crossing when the trailer high-centered on the tracks and became struck. It is worth noting that enclosed vehicle transports have notoriously low ground clearance. The train that appeared, later on, was unable to stop in time, and struck  the rig's trailer and pushed it a short distance from the crossing. The driver was reportedly unfamiliar with the area and thus had no idea the crossing he was attempting to drive over was simply unsuitable for his trailer.

The SF90 Looks To Have Borne The Brunt Of The Impact

via Reddit

Some photos show on Reddit a wheel of the SF90 behind the ruined trailer, and it would appear from that photo that it was that particular car that received the full force of the impact, so the damage probably isn’t light. The damage to the rest of the vehicles is unknown, so we can only speculate what state the other cars are in via the images of the accident that have been shared. Given the damage outwardly on the trailer and the fact it was dragged from the crossing, it probably isn’t good. Some images shared on other outlets suggest that some of the cars might have escaped major damage.

Expensive Mistake Could Have Been Avoided

We do have to be thankful however, that no one was injured in the accident. Clearly, though, it's been a costly mistake to have made by the driver of the semi. The lack of time to alert railway staff that there was a blockage did not help either.

The incident does beg a few questions:  Is there/should there be information to truckers on the level of rise at train crossings, such as there is for low bridges?  Does the 9-11 service have a direct line to the railroads when such an obstruction occurs, and if so, how quickly can the right train be alerted to stop?
