It was barely a year ago when Ferrari unleashed the Roma, a true splendor on the streets. The Ferrari Roma has been depicted as a modern classic serving as an icon of Italian design and performance. Further boosting Roma's stylish status is the fact that it recently won the the Production Cars category of the Car Design Award 2020.

The Car Design Award is a prestigious accolade that acknowledges the work of design teams responsible for the finest automotive production designs of the year, as spread across several categories. It was launched by the Auto&Design magazine in 1984 and lasted until 1997. It was revived in its present form in 2006.

For the 2020 edition of the Car Design Award, winners were picked by an expert jury of 12 journalists from the leading international automotive publications, including the Auto & Design magazine. For the Production Cars category, the honor went to the Ferrari Roma. The 2020 Car Design Award was held on its YouTube channel.

Incredible Design Job

In giving the award, the Car Design Award jury stated that the Flavio Manzoni-led Ferrari design team "did an incredible job" with the Roma.  They stated that the new Ferrari reinterprets the classical lines of a Gran Turismo car while projecting them into the 21st century, as made possible by "sensual, evocative and cutting-edge design”.

A mid-front-engine 2+2 coupe, the Roma was called by Ferrari as “el nuovo dolce vita,” which means the new sweet life. According to the carmaker, the new model is a modern depiction of “el dolce vita,” referring to the carefree lifestyle that defined the city of Rome in the 1950s and ‘60s. It boasts beautifully harmonious proportions as well as elegantly pure, balanced volumes that defined the car that inspired it -- the 250 GT Berlinetta lusso.

The stylishly elegant looks of the Ferrari Roma is complemented by superior power. This is provided by a 3.85-liter turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 612 hp (456 kW) of max output and 516 lb.-ft. (760 Nm) of peak torque. It employs a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission also found on the Ferrari SF90 Stradale.
