In life, we often find that people do things to stand out or get the most attention that they can get from their fellow beings. However, over the years, one of the craziest things that people have adopted is the love of car modifications. Some modifications actually look pretty decent but some, such as having ridiculous wheels, can actually ruin a perfectly good and normal car. The love for wheel modifications can probably be blamed on those Hot Wheels cars that we played with as kids and thought were cool. But what we found was cool as kids isn't always exactly cool for us as adults.

When it comes to “how to ruin a good car,” the list of possibilities is endless, but the most common way to ruin a car is by installing silly-looking wheels. Wheels may look good, but they aren’t exactly safe when you ignore the manufacturer's specifications as this can affect how the car is handled and maneuvered. Manufacturers also play their part in ruining cars. Below, we introduce you to 18 sets of wheels that ruined otherwise good cars. These are basically just some good cars that we have identified with some ridiculous wheel modifications, and others with base wheels from the manufacturer that failed to impress.

18 Elbows

Honestly, when we first saw the word "elbows," we were thinking of the pasta that we eat, or something shaped similarly. These wheels are in no way shaped like an elbow. What these wheels are is dangerous. It makes this car looks like it is about to take part in a chariot race in a Gladiator movie. If you see a car with these wheels driving near to you, avoid it at all costs as the wheels can scrape the sides of your car.

17 Chevrolet Camaro

Chevrolet Camaros are awesome muscle cars that probably became popular with this generation because they are featured a lot in The Transformers movies. Now, a lot of young drivers may actually be interested in owning a Camaro.

This beautiful Chevrolet Camaro was ruined by its skinny tires and its 32-inch rims.

Though it's head-turning (but probably not in a good way), the dunk wheels are totally ruining an otherwise perfect sports car. The car now handles terribly, rides uncomfortably and has a low center of gravity.

16 Tesla Model 3 18-Inch Aero Wheel

Teslarati.com

People sort of know Tesla because they know Elon Musk. Though we are familiar with him, we’re probably not going to go out of our way to get a Tesla because we are still a little too unfamiliar with the brand, and more so because their cars tend to be on the expensive side. The wheels on this car are pretty depressing, and it’s clear to see that Tesla favored efficiency in lieu of style in this design. The wheels on this car actually look like a sand dollar and make the car really boring and sad to look at.

15 Envy Monolyth

Let us begin by first saying that there is nothing to envy about this set of wheels. It looks good on this particular pink Batman-themed Tesla, but on another car, the rims would be awful and let's be honest, the Batman-themed car is a bit too much for our tastes. So, if you’re getting a surprise car makeover, you may want to supervise the job, because these wheels could ruin a perfectly good car. If you’re not preparing to surprise someone, forget these wheels.

14 Dollar Bills

i.kinja-img.com

We are a little bit grateful that we didn’t get a full shot of the car these wheels were installed on, but we can still come to the conclusion that the dollar bill wheels ruined the car.

These wheels are just ugly, and the only saving grace they may have is that they are cheaper than spinners.

So, if your budget is tight, and you can’t afford to ruin your perfectly good car with spinner wheels, these dollar bill wheels will have to suffice, though some may think that you have real dollar bills on your wheels and try to steal them.

13 Honda Civic 17-inch Black Alloy Wheel

Tempe Tyres

As we’ve seen before, manufacturers can ruin their own cars by outfitting them with wheels that are terrible. The Honda Civic is probably one of the most famous cars Honda has ever produced, if not the most famous. However, Honda was a bit too extra with the Civic’s 17-inch black alloy wheel. The wheel just has a bit too much going on. Unfortunately, most of the wheels that come with the Civic have a lot going on except maybe for the ones made specifically for the Si and Type Rs.

12 Honda CR-V 17-inch wheel

WhichCar

Thankfully this wheel option is not available for the base options, where most of us would likely prefer to spend our money. This wheel is actually found on upper-end trim levels. This wheel also has too much going on with it.

The wheel actually looks as if it were designed by a kid, and it doesn’t help that it looks kind of like a large fidget spinner.

The design may be considered original though, even though it reminds us of a toy that juveniles were crazy over a few months or years back.

11 Buick Cascada Standard 20-inch Wheel

Buick Pressroom

Buick’s wheel design is a bit much for this car. Nothing is wrong with how the wheels look, per se, but our issue is really with the size of the wheels. We've already learned that vehicles with large wheels are particularly difficult to control. But this convertible is handled by mostly pensioners, so why put their lives at risk even if they have lived most of it already? Standard 20-inch wheels not only look awkward, but these wheels compromise the ride.

10 VW Jetta 17-inch wheel

Douglas Volkswagen

It seems as if Volkswagen is running out of ideas for wheel designs if the wheels on the new Jetta are anything to go by. VW tried to pack too much into the wheels, so even when the car is parked, the wheels actually make you feel a bit nauseous and dizzy because its as though you’re staring at a maze or something that’s in an uncontrolled spiral. Confusion aside, these wheels also look like they won’t age too well.

9 Chevrolet Camaro 18-Inch Base Wheel

autoTrader.ca

It seems as if people go out of their way to spoil Camaros because this is not the first time the car is making an appearance on our list. This time, though, the Culprit is Chevrolet themselves. Even if the wheels on the Camaro are base model wheels, we would obviously expect a higher standard and more stylish design for the Camaro. These wheels on the Camaro can only be described as barren. They aren’t that ugly, but they actually help to advertise that the car is pretty basic. You get what you pay for.

8 Kia Soul EV 16-inch wheel

Car and Driver

The Kia Soul has been thought of as one of the trendiest vehicles of the past couple of years. However, what’s not all that trendy are the wheels on its EV.

The wheels are intended to be aerodynamically efficient and not stylish, so Kia just stuck with a vinyl record style design that doesn’t really do much to impress.

Despite the ugly wheels, people will probably still get the Kia Soul because it is an affordably priced vehicle and it’s also an electric car so they would be doing their part in the conservation of the environment.

7 Chevrolet Malibu 18-Inch Wheel

Car and Driver

The Chevrolet Malibu has always been thought of as a pretty conservative car that you would see everyday people driving. These wheels don’t help to portray this image of the Malibu at all. In fact, the wheels are rather aggressive and sporty looking, something Malibu drivers are not going to be too keen on. While some may not see a problem with sporty wheels, the issue is that the wheels contradict the look and feel of the rest of the Malibu brand.

6 BMW i3 19-Inch Base Wheel

The Electric BMW i3

The BMW i3 cars have wheels that are not attractive at all. It seems as if BMW is just content to give us any wheel and slap their badge on it.

The cars cost a fortune, so you’d obviously expect a lot more from BMW.

The wheel has a bare silver finish and is as basic as wheels come with its unstyled finish. To be honest, the wheel looks a bit like a pie chart that is split into five parts. The i3 already has a controversial appearance, so you would think BMW would have put some effort into designing the wheel.

5 Maybach’s Sawblade

Twitter

If we’re going to pay more than $150,000 on a car, we are within our rights to demand that we get some wheels that show off at least a bit of innovation and creativity. The Maybach’s Sawblade is lacking that because the wheel just looks like a saw blade as the name suggest. There is no creativity or thought put into the wheel and although the vehicle may be great, it still comes as a disappointment with its sawblade wheel.

4 Porsche 924

Hagerty

When you think about Porsche, you generally think of a car that is the definition of understated luxury. Not a flashy car, but something that has earned its status as a leader in the sports car segment.

You also think that if you are buying a Porsche, it’s going to be a top of the line vehicle because of the price you pay for it.

The last thing you would expect to see on their sporty model is a basic wheel that looks out of place. You definitely don't want a wheel that looks like Porsche was trying their hardest to reduce costs, so they just slapped a badge on something basic and called it a day.

3 Ford Capri

Wikipedia

We would also not have expected to see a Ford wheel on this list, but the Ford Capri has one of the worst wheels on our list. The wheel looks as if someone took a paper hole puncher and made holes all over it to create a somewhat decent style. The wheel itself is cheap looking. Though we like some polka dots in our lives, seeing them on a wheel is a bit of a hair-raiser, and not in a good way. Luckily, we don’t see these wheels on Ford’s more popular models.

Honda, like Ford, went the way of the paper punch design on this one. The only difference here is that rather than having holes in the wheels of different sizes, they have four holes in their wheel that are the same size. To be honest, the wheel looks a bit like a hubcap and it’s very disappointing that Honda, of all manufacturers, would have more than one set of wheels for different vehicles they manufacture on this list. It could very well be that they are out of ideas.

1 Honda Civic Hybrid

Top Speed

Ending our list of wheels that ruined good cars is yet another Honda wheel. This time, the offending car is the Honda Civic Hybrid. This wheel is a bit complex to describe.

It looks like a spinner wheel, but it more looks like those toys our kids might find in their Happy Meals, but with more silver.

Maybe the wheels are designed as they are to make the car more aerodynamic. That’s the only logical excuse. If that’s not the case, Honda ruined a good car for nothing.
