Of all the American sports cars, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and the Chevrolet Corvette are at the top of the list. Youtuber Can I be Frank dropped a new video showcasing what might be the world’s quickest naturally aspirated Chevrolet Corvette C8 going up against a Shelby GT500.
Taking place on the streets, the two cars make three passes against each other. They do a 50-roll, 40-roll, and 30-roll race.
Although the video doesn’t detail the mods done to each vehicle, it does state that the Shelby GT500 has a cold air intake system installed on its stock 760-hp engine. You can also hear the Youtuber say that the Corvette is still undergoing more tuning and currently has 500 hp.
Regardless, there’s going to be a whole lot of head-to-head sports car and muscle car action going on here.
The Battle Between The C8 And Shelby GT500 Ensues
The video starts off with some brief parking lot footage of the white Corvette C8 warming up near a crowd of onlookers. A quick glance across the parking lot shows a bright orange S550 generation Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 but then returns to the Vette. Shortly after, the two cars and drivers are on the freeway racing with nothing but the roaring wind and raw asphalt concrete.
Since we only see the Corvette C8 here at this point, it’s easier to admire. This example features an arctic white exterior that still looks as pristine as a showroom floor model. This is no surprise since the Corvette C8 is in high demand at dealerships everywhere.
The headlights are on and have a sharp and aggressive design to them with long swooping shapes. The wheels aren’t 100% clearly visible, but they appear to be the manufacturer’s 19” front/20’ rear package that features 20 spokes. These forged aluminum wheels have a gloss black finish and naturally match the C8’s aesthetic.
Being the first mid-engine Corvette in Chevy’s history, the C8 continues to move from being just an American supercar. The lines blur as it zooms further into International supercar territory.

First, in the 50-roll race, the Corvette C8 is able to keep up with the Shelby GT500.
Second, in the 40-roll race, the Shelby GT500 starts to show its dominance and pulls ahead of the Corvette C8 with authority.
Finally, in the 30-roll the Corvette C8 is straight up outclassed by the Shelby GT500. The video ends as the passenger of the Shelby GT500 films the Corvette C8 until it blurs out of focus and gets left trailing behind.
Depending on your perspective, this race between American car giants is either a surprise or an expected outcome. Looks like a new Chevy Corvette rivalry is starting to brew up with the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Either way, there’s no denying the fact that seeing these two powerhouses duke it out always satisfies the American car enthusiast.
