The Kia EV6 is one of the most interesting and desirable electric cars on the market, second only to its brother, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. However, they both have a distant sibling who is a little more fashionable, and upmarket. The Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury arm also has the Genesis GV60. All three cars are very similar, but also very different from each other. But how different is the Genesis GV60 compared to the Kia EV6 particularly is what we will look to discover. Having said that, the styling and interior design are subject to personal tastes and preferences. Here, we are most interested in the performance differences and the different technologies that they both have to offer.

Both the Genesis GV60 and the Kia EV6 share the same E-GMP electric platform. Both of them use the skateboard architecture and feature a maximum battery capacity of 77 kWh. However, the EV6 is also available with a smaller and more affordable 58 kWh battery option.

However, both 77.5 kWh version of the cars feature single motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor, all-wheel drive options. Additionally, their top-of-the-line models are available with added performance with the EV6 GT and the GV60 AWD Performance variants.

While the most efficient RWD GV60 offers an estimated range of 280 miles, the EV6 does even better at 295 miles on a single charge. The EV6 is similarly a superior vehicle in terms of range compared to the GV60 for the AWD models. This is despite the fact that both the Kia and Genesis electric cars feature identical 225 horsepower/258 pound-feet rated electric motors. The difference in range would largely be due to the difference in styling affecting drag coefficient and vehicle weight. The all-wheel-drive options on both models offer more power that are quite comparable.

The EV6 GT is said to make 570hp and 546 pound-feet, against the GV60 Performance model that uses a 430hp motor that makes up to 516 pound-feet using boost function.

As far as suspension and handling is concerned, the Kia uses a McPherson Strut front suspension set up, with a multi-link at the rear. But the Genesis uses an electronically controlled suspension feature that reacts to the information gathered from the camera at the front of the vehicle. The dampers adjust according to the road up ahead in the GV60 to offer a more comfortable luxurious ride. As the Kia is the ‘sporty’ brand, the EV6 is expected to handle better. However, Genesis has revealed that the GV60 will also come with a Drift mode!

Both cars are environmentally conscious. The Kia EV6 has a very premium interior that uses recycled PET fabrics, vegan leather, and flaxseed oil-tanned leather. The Genesis GV60 goes a step further to offer premium finished vegan leather in upscale colors with quilted patterns. The GV60’s interior is generously covered in soft touch materials for a more luxurious appeal.

As far as screens go, both cars are equally matched. The EV6 and the GV60 feature a 12.3-inch digital driver’s gauge cluster and another 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. However, the Kia and Genesis will feature different graphics and distinguished user interfaces, to achieve largely the same results. Both electric models feature floating center console designs. But, the GV60 features a revolving orb that flips over to reveal the gear selector. They call it the “Crystal Sphere” and it looks straight out of a science fiction movie if you ask us.
