McLaren is one of the most successful car brands out there, with a massive pedigree in motorsport, they have also made some fantastic road cars, most of which have been released in the past decade.
Which ones are the best though? McLaren has made many great supercars, but if we had to rank their best cars, which one would come out on top? Well, read on to find out and see our list of the top ten McLarens ever made, ranked.
10 McLaren MP4-12 C
The McLaren MP4-12 C was the first supercar of the 21st century entirely made by McLaren, and it was made to compete with the Ferrari 458. On paper, this was a better car. It had more power, it was quicker, and it was far more technologically advanced, but ultimately a 458 was better to drive. Nevertheless, the 12C was a great car, that kicked off an exciting decade for the brand.
Under the hood was a 3.8 twin-turbo V8, which was used in many other Mclaren models. This was the car that put McLaren on the supercar map and really built a base for them.
9 McLaren Artura
The McLaren Artura is the newest McLaren on this list, and it replaces the 570 S. It's the second hybrid and first V6 car by the marque. It is also the first McLaren to use a proper name rather than a load of letters or numbers jumbled together. The Artura pushes out 671hp and 431 lb-ft of torque, which is incredible.
The Artura can do a 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and flat out hit 205 mph. A very quick car indeed, and it looks absolutely stunning. It can easily be used every single day, yet when you want to poke it a little, it sure does deliver. It's a track car, a GT, and a full-out supercar all in one.
8 McLaren SLR
The Mercedes McLaren SLR was a spectacular supercar that McLaren built in partnership with Mercedes. It had hypercar performance at the time, but unlike its rivals from Ferrari or Porsche, the SLR was more so a GT. When launched, this was the fastest automatic car in the world, and it went like a rocket.
Under the hood was a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 that pushed out 617hp and 575 lb-ft of torque. It was a crazy engine that sounded like a fighter jet. It may have been a confusing car, but it sure is one of the best McLarens ever created.
7 McLaren 570 S
The 570 S was a car that was very important for McLaren. The first proper entry-level model by the brand, it was pitted up against the likes of the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo S. It was by far the best looking car out of all of them.
The 570 S looked more expensive than it actually was. It also had the same engine used in the McLaren P1. The 570 S brought in so many new people to the brand who eventually upgraded to other cars like the 720s or 600 LT.
6 McLaren 600 LT
Basically a 570 S, but better. The 600 LT was a car that took aerodynamics to the next level. The LT featured the iconic long-tail spoiler and an aerodynamic carbon fiber body kit. However, the main party piece for this car was the top-mounted exhausts, which spat out flames.
These were awesome, and they definitely made the 600 LT more of a supercar. The 600 LT looked incredible, and it really did push cars like the GT3 RS Porsche to the max. This car showed off what McLaren was capable of, and they sure did succeed.
5 McLaren Senna
Naming a car after a racing driver is difficult, especially when you're naming a car after the most famous one of them all. The Senna was launched back in 2018, and it was spectacular. Based on the 720s, the Senna was a car that represented Ayrton Senna massively.
It was styled more for purpose than looks. The spoiler is massive, and the other aerodynamics are crazy. A controversial design, yes, but who cares? This car was designed with speed in mind, and it is a serious bit of kit.
4 McLaren 675 LT
The McLaren 650 S was the replacement for the 12 C, and it was basically the same car. The 675 LT on the other hand was a massively different car from the 650 S. It looks timeless, it's stupidly fast and it is so much more modern. The 675 LT was a rival to the Ferrari 458 Speciale and the Lamborghini Huracán Performante, and it was overall a better car in our opinion.
The 675 LT featured the same engine seen in the P1 and the 650S. The power output is very interesting since it's the same number as the devil, 666 hp. The 675 LT hits 60 in just 2.9 seconds and flat out this car does 205 mph.
3 McLaren P1
The P1 was a car that really made a statement for McLaren. The first proper hypercar since the SLR, the P1 was made to rival the likes of the 918 Porsche and Ferrari LaFerrari. The P1 featured the same engine used in the 12 C, but it was far more sophisticated.
The P1 pushed out 727hp from its 3.8 twin-turbo V8. An electric motor pushes out a further 177hp. Overall, this car produces 903hp, which is absolutely ludicrous. The P1 hits 60 in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph. It's a very hard car to drive, but it looks absolutely incredible.
2 McLaren 720 S
The McLaren 720s completely changed McLaren. Previously, a lot of their cars looked the same. The predecessor, the 650s, was a great car, but it didn't exactly stand out. The 720s on the other hand quickly became the top of its game. It looks like a spaceship, and it goes like one as well.
The 720s was also a proper monster around the track. It completely killed its competition when it came to overall performance. The only issue with this thing though was depreciation, which was absolutely ludicrous. Nevertheless, it makes this car an awesome second-hand buy.
1 McLaren F1
Saving the best till last, the F1 is in a class of its own. Launched back in 1992, this car is a total work of art. It's powered by a BMW V12 with 618hp. That's more than 100hp per liter, which is insane for a car that old. The F1 was also a mid-seat hypercar, which at the time was very weird and also somewhat controversial.
The McLaren F1 was a true F1 racer for the road. No car comes close to this, and it is by far the best car ever to come out of Europe. No Ferrari could ever compare. What else is there to say? This car was the fastest in the world for a long time, with a top speed of more than 240 mph, it remains the fastest naturally aspirated car to this very day.
