The Honda Civic has been in constant production since 1972, and most examples faithfully serve as grocery-getters for families for their whole lives. Thanks to the model's dependability and affordable nature, it's also a favorite among modified car builders all over the world.
It's an accessible platform for JDM fans to build whatever they please, with a host of off-the-shelf aftermarket parts available to make modding easy. With all these things going for it, it's no surprise there's plenty of slammed Honda builds scraping pavements from Japan to Poland. Here's a selection of ten of the best.
11 Civic Sedan "Avant-Garde"
Sitting low on Avante Garde wheels, this Civic sedan was built by the company themselves to showcase their product. It's a great combination, with the polished 5-spoke rims grabbing attention without looking out of place on the car.
Graphics across the front and rear windows contrast with the clean and mostly stock look of the rest of the body. The car is painted a rich brown, which is unusual but is pulled off flawlessly, completing the visuals of this excellent project.
10 Jess Kang's Civic Sedan
The bodywork of this dropped Honda still bears the scars of years of hard use, with spots of rust poking through on the rear wheel arches and sills. Owner Jess Kang went for a white-on-white look for bodywork and rims, with the black contrasting panels really highlighting its 90s design.
The rear wheels employ double-digit negative camber, but the car still manages to look smooth and composed. With so many builds aiming for flawless lines, it's great to see a car that's clearly been well used to get a second life. This Civic displays its imperfections with pride.
9 Koshi Funakoshi's Civic Sedan
When planning a project build, it's very easy to go overboard and end up trying to build something that never quite reaches when the owner wants it to be. Not so for Koshi Funakoshi, who made sure he was able to get his Civic exactly how he wanted it.
Sporting 16" mesh-style wheels and widened wheel arches, it's an exercise in balancing gravity and camber. Subtle details have also been added, like the rear lip and a subtle rework of the front bumper and skirts.
8 Rocket Bunny Civic Type R
This Type R is so mad it looks more like a creation out of Need For Speed than anything real. It is very much real though, and it's got a Rocket Bunny wide body kit and bagged suspension to give it its video-game looks.
The exposed Airtec radiator is (quite literally) a cool addition, and compliments the shelf-like front wing well. There's extra carbon fiber everywhere, with a set of forged six-spoke rims adding the finishing touches of visual insanity.
7 Murked-Out Civic Sedan
Blacked-out cars aren't anything new, and in fact many examples just tend to look tired nowadays. However, most builds aren't executed anywhere near as cleanly as this Civic sedan.
Everything from the bumpers to the front grille has been modified, but it's all done with such precision it could almost be a factory option. Hats off to the owner of this project for taking a tired trend and making it cool again.
6 "Sunkist" Civic Sedan
Stuck for a color for a new project? How about bright orange? This sedan gives off serious 2000s tuner vibes but in a good way. To add to the visual impact, red Recaro seats have been color-coded to match with the VTEC engine.
What's a tuner build without some stickers? The rear window takes care of that, with a completely straight line of them that must have taken some serious precision to get right. It's a car that demands attention, but it's sure to put a brighter smile on the face of any car fans it drives past.
5 Kei Miura's Civic Hatchback
This Civic hatchback is the personal vehicle of wide body guru Kei Miura-san, the brains behind Pandem and sister brand Rocket Bunny. He designed this car himself, and it's the only example of the kit in the world.
All white everything keeps the Civic looking super clean, so clean in fact that the build could almost be mistaken for a rendering from certain angles. It's unique, it's over-the-top, and it's everything that makes Pandem great.
4 Civic Sedan "@BaggedFC2"
The slippery-smooth lines of this bagged Civic are reflected in its iridescent oil-slick paint and rainbow-tinted glass. It's certainly colorful enough to stand out at any show and take attention away from more expensive or rare builds.
The usual package of skirts and bumpers makes this Civic look suitably stanced, with windscreen stickers giving out Japanese drift vibes. It's a build car fans can't miss if they walk by, but that's what makes it such a cool project.
3 "Polish Stance"
2 Civic Hatchback
Hailing from Poland, this hatchback Honda is a masterclass in the mantra, "less is more". There's nothing that looks out of place on the car, with mesh-style rims sat neatly on air bags to give the car its ground-scraping look.
Visually there isn't a lot that's been done to the body, but that serves to highlight the Honda's stock silhouette. It looks surprisingly good for a car that's over twenty years old.
1 Civic Rat Rod
Rat rods are usually the realm of older-model American cars, so this ratty Civic is both fresh and undeniably awesome. It's slammed almost into the ground, with a fraction of an inch clearance between tires and wheel arches.
The roof rack is a great addition, harking back to the modified surf wagons of old. The extended and upturned exhaust is a nod to Japanese bosozoku style, with angel-eye headlights rounding off this real melting pot of influences. It's a bit of everything, all combined into one unique and ultra-cool Civic.
