Who can forget playing Gran Turismo as a child only to see the underwhelming stats attached to the Toyota Celica? This was a dream car for various youngsters including myself however looking at those terrible speed capabilities that would quickly change. We feature a variety of rides such as the Celica that appear to be quite the speedsters visually. However on the inside they don’t have greatest track record with lackluster speed capabilities. You’ll be baffled by how slow some of these rides are. In some instances, hitting 0-60 mph takes more than 10 darn seconds!
Unexpected car companies appear on the list such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Maserati. Known as a “lightweight sports car”, this isn’t a label Ferrari wants us to remember. Although the Mondial was one of the most affordable Ferrari types ever made it didn’t scream out speed or anything else noticeably special. For that reason it’s remembered as one of the more lacklustre Ferrari models ever created. Some might say it’s the very worst. The Mondial has some laughable numbers.
An underwhelming 0-60 in seven seconds made it a dud in terms of speed.
This followed up by top capabilities of 140 mph along with a dud 214 horsepower. Ferrari wants these features surpassed in the past from our memories!
Speaking of duds, the Lamborghini Urraco ranks among the worst Lambos ever created. In fact, the P200 has a slower top speed compared to the Mondial of 134 mph. Again in fairness to Lamborghini they attempted to make an affordable model. The result was instead a complete dud. Putting things into perspective the Aventador has a top speed almost 100 mph quicker! After 791 models were produced Lamborghini put an end to the car type in the late 1970s. It was named after a bull but we can safely say it didn’t drive like one!
Those that purchase the DeLorean enjoy the uniqueness of the ride on the outside because seriously on the inside the car is a complete dud. According to Road and Track numbers it take the car more than 10 seconds to hit 0 to 100 km/h! Most of us can make a sandwich in that amount of the time!
As you might expect, it doesn’t have a blazing top speed either.
85 miles per hour is the max on this ride – yikes! That’s to be expected with a 130 horsepower on the inside. With plans to revive the model DeLorean fans can expect a speed upgrade, one most would agree is much needed even if you don’t have a need for speed.
The Jaguar E-Type gets some massive praise. Enzo Ferrari labelled the ride as one of the most beautiful ever made. The ride has also been featured numerous times via pop culture references. Production ended in 1975, though various concept models continue to be produced. It has a tremendous legacy without a doubt. However what lots of car enthusiasts tend to forget is that the ride wasn’t fast... at all. It has a top speed of 150 mph not to mention a pedestrian 0 to 60 mph in seven seconds. The final version of the ride, The Series 3 featured a 272 horsepower, which was again reduced for the final version. The ride is a luxury one more so than its unjust sports car label.
It looks like one of the fastest cars in the world... key word, looks. Cheat Sheet properly describes this car as the “world’s best terrible car.” The LP400 tends to be a little overrated with a top speed of 179 mph and a 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. Compare this to the Aventador SV that can hit 0 to 100 in half the time! The SV can reach 0 to 100 in just 2.8 seconds. Yikes! The Countach would get faster with the 5000 QV model. It is also quite the joy even to this day in terms of the loud and wow factors. However, it was a lot slower than most probably remember.
A two-door sports car roadster, some would assume that this ride has a blazing speed due to its front-engine and lighter look. The car is under 3,000 lbs leading some to believe it has blazing fast capabilities. However, a V6 engine and 214 horsepower tells us otherwise. Second-hand models exist nowadays.
Chrysler ended production back in 2002.
Despite only having a five year window the company managed to produce close to 12,000. A top speed of 118 mph and 1-100 in 7.2 seconds, we hope the buyers of the ride didn’t make the purchase for acceleration purposes.
Back in the earlier 2000s, oh so many teens had dreams to purchasing the sleek Celica. However what few realized is how slow the darn car is despite its beauty on the outside. A 1.8 liter engine is truly shocking to look at back at not to mention a 140 horsepower. The GT-S wasn’t all that fast either with 180 hp. It’s baffling to think of the amount of rides that offer more torque than this classic sports car. Although it’s an easy drive, the 7.2 seconds to hit 100 km/h made it quite underwhelming (and that’s the T-Sport, one of the quicker models). If you bought this ride it was because of the classic sports car look.
Similar to the Celica, the Mitsubishi Lancer GT looks incredible fast on the outside making it a dream sports car for many. However, Auto Guide properly points out that the car is a bit of a dud on the inside. The top GT Lancer types include a 168 horsepower and 2.4 liter engine, that’s a pretty big disappointment for a ride that appears to be so much more. The 2014 GT has a top speed of 130 mph according to Top Speed. It isn’t blazing fast in quick succession either hitting 0 to 100 mph is almost 8 seconds...
Not all Chevrolet Corvettes are terribly slow. However there were a couple of dud models in the 70s and early 80s. Horsepower on these rides ranged lower than 200 hp.
Some models had a max horsepower of only 180.
This compared to models that feature more than double the torque and horsepower. Regarded as a sports car both the models and performance definitely ranged depending on the type. This particular Corvette lasted throughout the 70s however it finally ended production in 1982. It’s generally regarded as a fast type however digging a little deeper Chevrolet wants you to forget about the various dud speed capabilities from certain model types.
One of the most polarizing Ferrari models ever made, this legend that was released back in the 80s. By all means it wasn’t the slowest Ferrari nor is a dud of a sports car with a near 400 hp. Just in comparison to current Ferrari models it comes nowhere near. Hitting 0-100 in over 5 seconds, various Ferrari models are a lot quicker that’s for sure. Thrillist makes the claim that a Ford Focus can be a faster alternative than the ride. Don’t tell that to Ferrari lovers! Despite all of the reaction it gets this is still a sought after car and one Ferrari fans want to see revived. If it does, let’s hope for a little more speed!
It has a great legacy however the Ghibli is no speedster and that's especially true when it comes to the prior models back in the late 60s and early 70s. According to Thrillist the car is incapable of hitting 185 mph. In terms of breakout speed it didn’t have that either with a 0-60 mph in a little less than 7 seconds, ouch. Maserati revived the model a couple of times due to popular demand. In 2013 the M157 model hit the market. This car received an upgrade in terms of speed with a 400 horsepower and a twin turbocharged engine. It contains a lot more power than the first model.
One of the newest rides on the list, this compact car looks tough and one that is filled with power on the inside. However, we hate to break it to you but that’s not the case. Hey, maybe that’s why it cost a little over $20,000 at such an affordable price point? It promotes fuel economy, however according to Auto Guide the torque and horsepower on the inside is completely laughable compared to the Viper and Hellcat models.
The car has 160 horsepower along with 148-lb of torque, ouch.
Upgrades do exist with a turbocharged engine, however the performance remains a dud nonetheless even with the upgrades.
Who can forget the Honda CR-X, one of the more popular Honda rides ever made. It maintained a unique look while giving the driver a great ride. It was also an economy sports utility vehicle. As of 1991 production finally ended after a near decade long run. The CR-Z reminded lots of CR-X enthusiasts of the ride – just a more hybrid version and modern day. It maintained the hatch look on the back. However, it isn’t fast, at all. The original version is no speedster either with a 130 hp. Though the renewed version has a lackluster speed capability due to the fuel economy feature – a part of the car which many suggest is overrated.
Sport compact is what this car promotes. The Eclipse has a lengthy history lasting from the early 90s all the way till 2012. The car went through four generation model changes throughout its time. It would be difficult to find someone that argues the MX-5 Miata isn’t fun to drive. The MX-5 doesn’t need to be that fast because it is so light and engaging.”
The RX-7 receives lots of praise for its sleek look and lightweight. This made it a fast ride. Its predecessor wouldn’t follow suit and according to Zero To 60 Times the changes made the ride a lot slower; “The 8 wouldn’t live up to the hype though, as it was naturally aspirated only, and picked up two more seats. Weight was up, power was down, and the mighty RX8 was a full second slower through the quarter mile.”
The sports car model ended in 2013 after almost a decade of production.
Emissions standards was a major reason for the discontinuation.
A Porsche that hits 0 to 60 in almost 10 seconds? What world is this? However just by taking a look at the Porsche 944 NA you might be able to anticipate that it isn’t the fastest Porsche ever made. It not only looks thick as hell but it also looks capable of swallowing bullets with such a rough exterior. Some of the other types were a lot quicker such as the 944 Turbo. The 944 line actually did quite well and is one of the most successful lines produced by Porsche with more than 160,000 models passing production. They’ll just hope you forget about the dud 944 NA!
A classic sports care produced in the 1980s this vehicle looks to be incredible fast on the outside. Heck it has a wing not to mention that it also looks pretty darn light. However this Japanese ride is another slow sports car Nissan wants you to forget about. There’s a reason why the car model can be found for dirt cheap these days.
Even advanced turbocharged versions can have an underwhelming horsepower of 160.
Of course, racing alternatives of this car do exist. Though the Nissan 300ZX doesn’t hold a candle to those types of model capabilities.
Fiero in Italian means “proud.” The car company should be proud of the legacy produced by this ride. However they definitely shouldn’t be proud of the speed capabilities possessed by this sports car. It’s a gem on the outside but a slow poke on the inside. 103 mph top speed and a torque of 134 lbft isn’t anything crazy. What is worst of all is the 0-60 mph capabilities. It takes the car almost 11 seconds to hit 100 km/h! The Fiero GT isn’t any better ranging from 8 to 9 seconds. Its best that fans of this ride disregard that part of the car’s storied legacy.
Acceleration, 0-60 mp/h in 13.3 seconds.... Most of us can jog all the way down the street in the same amount of time! Again for a Porsche this is definitely underwhelming. Yes, the car was produced back in the 70s however let’s not disregard the fact that more than 118,000 models were made. It was no one and done car model that’s for darn sure. Hilarious to think but some of the quickest Porsche types can hit 0-60 km/h in a disturbing amount of time. The 700-horsepower 911 GT2 can hit the mark in 2.7 seconds! The 914 is definitely a long way from hitting such a mark.
