Saying Britain’s Royal Family has a love of cars would be a bit of an understatement, with an eclectic car collection that included cars from Daimler, to Vauxhall, Rolls-Royce, Land Rover, Jaguar and Bentley. However, the late Queen Elizabeth II herself stands out for being a royal auto enthusiast who liked to drive herself around, even if she never had a driver’s license! Heck, she even liked getting her hands dirty, having been trained as a mechanic in the Second World War.

Knowing that, it makes sense that car manufacturers have placed such high importance on the royal patronage. While the Queen’s personal favourite brand is said to be Land Rover (having owned over 30), that hasn’t stopped Britain’s finest from preparing cars for her, and in her tribute.

Bombproof Bentley State Limousine Just For The Queen

Long before Bentley had its Mulliner department working on bespoke commissions for clients, the storied British marque built a very special car for Queen Elizabeth II, one that she used for state purposes over 20 years, right till her passing. Built on an Arnage, the Bentley limousine was a gift to honor the first 50 years of the throne, created with inputs from the Queen herself, and her royal chauffeur. Chief of those being the Royal Claret paintwork, livery that debuted on her grandfather’s car in 1902.

The Queen’s Bentley state limousine is 31-inches longer than a standard car, wider and taller, with an enlarged glasshouse (bulletproof, of course) to give people a better view of her Highness. The roof’s even been raised to let the Queen literally walk out of the car fully upright! The rear seat was designed around a model of the same height as the Queen to determine the optimum position, with specially designed storage spaces to match her favorite handbags.

Attention to detail is everywhere, with lambswool cloth upholstery and Bentley’s best hides in the cabin. Of course, the Bentley’s bodywork and glass can withstand any eventuality, or attack. The cabin can be sealed in case of a gas attack, and the tires are reinforced with Kevlar to allow for high-speed evasion. Thankfully, none of those features were put to the test in the Queen’s long use of the most unique Bentley in the world, valued at over $11 million!

The Woking-based manufacturer designed a special paint shade in honor of the Queen’s 70 years of reign, considering the Queen herself inaugurated McLaren’s Technology Centre 18 years back.

Presented on the occasion of the royal platinum jubilee, the paint is fittingly named ‘Platinum Jubilee’ and is matched to a bespoke Elizabeth II platinum badge created for the occasion by McLaren Special Operations. Both the platinum paint and the badge find their first home on a one-off McLaren Artura. But not to worry, if you would like to order your next McLaren in a similar shade, you can! Just ask for the Queen’s special.

A Union Jack-Inspired E-Type In Honor Of The Queen

From the Leaping Cat's in-house restoration arm, Jaguar Classic, comes a fully resto-modded 1965 E-Type Roadster that saw its public debut on possibly the most important stage of all – the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. This special commission joined 15 other Jaguars in the pageantry but won’t find home in the Royal collection. Instead, this E-Type was commissioned by a customer who wanted a car built to his exact specifications, but with a patriotic twist. The exterior paint was inspired by the blue on the Union Jack, and mixed specially by Jaguar Classic. The interiors, finished in British pillar box red, finish off the British flag theme.

Jaguar Classic doesn’t just stop there, though. The owner requested a donor car from the year he was born, and the firm went one better and sourced an original E-Type from within two days of his birthday! Jaguar Classic then upgraded the car’s original 4.2-liter straight six motor with a fresh 4.7-liter engine, mated to a brand new 5-speed gearbox. Modern suspension, brakes, tires and exhaust mean the lucky owner gets to experience an enhanced flavor of E-Type magic. You wouldn’t expect it, but this near-60-year old Jaguar also comes with touchscreen controls, and Bluetooth, all hidden away under period-correct instruments.

Given the long history the Queen has had with cars, it’s only fitting that she was honored with this sculpture made of old car parts. Designed by artist David Parfitt, this is one sculpture of the Queen that one can say truly captures her essence. It weighs in over 253 lbs and measures in over 11-ft tall, made of parts from old Jaguars, Austins, Rovers, Land Rovers and more. With a crown made of spark plugs, a necklace made of headlights, grilles and mirrors, the sculpture is fitting tribute to the Queen’s early days as an army mechanic.
