In general, it's a good rule of thumb to assume that a sports car won't last for as many miles as a passenger car. After all, it's built for performance, not longevity, so it'll wear out faster, right? Well, while it might be the case that most sports cars will struggle should you try to do 200,000 miles in one, it turns out that with the right maintenance there are plenty of models out there that will get the job done.

It's easy to say that any sports car should last a couple of hundred thousand miles in the right conditions, but these ten cars have all proved it. In all of these cases, there are documented examples out there where the cars have reached that figure, sometimes way beyond, and still running strong. They might not all be the flashiest or most exotic sports cars on the market, but for anyone who wants to put some serious mileage on their sports car, they're the safest bets.

Perhaps BMW isn't the first brand most people will think of when it comes to reliability, but it turns out that their sports cars are among the most durable on the market. The Z4 roadster has ranked as one of the most reliable sports cars of the past five years, beating many enthusiasts' expectations.

Most Z4s aren't old enough yet to have acquired 200k on the odometer, but their predecessor, the Z3, is just as suited for achieving that figure. A quick search of a leading auction site found two examples listed with over 200,000 miles, both of which came with service history for the next buyer's peace of mind.

As one of the most popular sports cars on Earth, it's no surprise that the Mazda MX-5 Miata is also a great candidate to make a high-mileage hero. Most of the earliest examples will have now been passed down through a handful of owners, but they still remain one of the most easy-to-maintain sports cars on the market.

Anyone who wants something a bit newer could opt for a Porsche 911, as despite being just a few years out of production, someone has already managed to clock over 200k in a 991.2-gen car. That's an average of 34,500 miles a year, in a 911.

The car in question is pictured here, and it was offered for sale at a Bonham's auction in January 2022. It had 207,103 miles racked up, but it came with a full Porsche service history, so there's no reason that it shouldn't be good for another 100,000 miles or more.

By the time the car hits the 200,000-mile mark it's safe to say that some major work will usually need completion, but given the residual value of these cars it's usually still economical to carry out the work. Then, it'll be ready for a further 100k, or perhaps even more.

Honda's last small sports car, the S2000, was discontinued in 2009 after ten years on sale. Fast-forward to today and many of those cars are still going strong, with a few owners crossing the 200k mark in recent years.

Honda's typical reliability is in full force here, with most of those high-mileage S2000s reportedly staying reliable even after 200,000. It's worth noting that, like most of the other cars here, owners report that frequent servicing and maintenance is key to extracting maximum miles from the car.

It's difficult to get an all-new sports car right on the first try, but that's exactly what Audi did when they launched the original TT over twenty years ago. They managed to achieve the perfect balance of performance versus affordability, which is what's kept so many examples on the roads over the years.

An early TT is likely to require more repair and maintenance work to get it to 200,000 miles than many of the other cars on this list, but it's very much achievable. The reliability of the TT has further improved over the generations, with the most recent generation being ranked as the second most-reliable sports car on the market according to data from the UK.

Corvettes might not be the most exotic of sports cars, but they're certainly capable of racking up high mileages, provided they haven't been driven recklessly by a previous owner. Really, any generation of the Corvette has the potential to reach a high figure, but the C5 also has the bonus of being a bit of a used bargain right now.

With a naturally aspirated V8 and a timeless design, the C5 ticks all the right boxes for a weekend cruiser. And, no matter how many road trips you want to take it on, it shouldn't falter in terms of reliability.

A car with 200,000 miles on the clock might well still have plenty of life left in it, as owners have reported getting up to 300,000 miles out of their S197-gen Mustangs. But, as ever, maintenance is key, especially given the way that some Mustang owners like to treat their cars.

It's now a high-value collector's item, but in the years after they were first released, MkIV Toyota Supras were seen as great daily-driveable sports cars. That led to a few of them racking up some seriously high miles.

Unfortunately, many of these high-mileage cars were later sold to careless owners who ended up sending them to the scrapyard, but a few of these ultra-high mile cars survive. One careful owner in Tennessee even managed to get 520,000 miles out of his car, with no major work required on the motor.

1 Subaru BRZ

Since its release in 2013, the Subaru BRZ has rapidly established itself as one of the best value small sports cars on the market. Much like the Supra mentioned previously, the BRZ makes a great daily driver, as it's efficient and comfortable even over long distances.

Only one or two owners have so far reported getting their cars across the 200,000-mile mark, and they haven't posted much evidence to back it up. But, there are plenty more owners who verifiably have over 170-180 thousand miles on their cars, so we should see plenty more cars crossing the 200,000 mark soon.
