We’ve seen automobiles get designed in several amazing forms. However, with the depth of human imagination being infinite, all we’ve seen are just snippets of the unending possibilities. Some car designs were so awesome they changed the game completely, while others were more of an upgrade on existing designs. In all these, through rendering, some artists have brought unique perspectives to automotive designs.
Rendering involves the use of computer graphic programs such as Photoshop in the creation of images. Hence, automobile companies often use it to create images used to tease the public of their future offerings, while several individual artists use it to express their imaginations. As such, these sports cars have been rendered by different artists to have off-roading features, and we think they're cool.
10 Off-Road C8 Concept
During an interview with Auto News, former General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz said if he was still at the helms of the automotive company’s affairs, Corvette would have transformed into a sport utility vehicle. It was a personal opinion, however, several artists are running with it, as there have been several renderings of the Corvette as an SUV.
The one featured here was created by Adam Dao. Using Photoshop, Dao graphically brought his imagination to life and called it the "Off-Road C8 Concept." The rendering has huge ground clearance, massive off-road wheels, and tires with off-road bumpers.
9 Toyota Supra
This rendering looks strange, yet so cool. It’s an all-terrain Supra credited to the wild imaginations of Rain Prisk – an artist who almost never disappoints with his renderings. With a little modification to the front fascia, which lacks a bit of aggressiveness, Toyota might as well be giving this a thought.
The meaty tires are a steal, you can be sure they’ll get you out of any sticky terrain – but if they fail, then the nicely attached tow hook should come in handy. Also, we particularly love the beautifully executed curves on this render.
8 Focus RS
Ford announced an end to the production of the Focus RS a while ago and eulogies have started pouring in for the sports car. However, seeing the awesome RS in a rally-ready rendering certainly hits differently. It’s another of Rain Prisk’s imagination that was curled from Facebook.
We’ll take this rendering as a tribute to the car while we also acknowledge the awesome imagination of the artist. Its highlight includes a row of off-road lights located on the grille, while the massive tires let you know the car means off-road business.
7 Ford Mustang Raptor
It’s common knowledge that Mustang faithful don’t like seeing major changes on their favorite pony, but this awesome off-road rending should gladden more than a few of their hearts. This rendering job is created by X-Tomi Design, and we think it looks awesome.
It features a grille that shares form with that of the Raptor while the bumper doesn’t look like it could have been better designed. To cap it all, the off-road vehicle is designed with just two doors which is another reason it’ll be loved by Mustang enthusiasts.
6 BMW M4 Baja Overlander
Not many enthusiasts have thought of seeing their lovely M4 in a Baja racing design, but now that we have this rendering, the thought of it isn’t so bad, after all. Incorporating a camper shell into the design of this M4 ultimately sold this awesome rendering to us, and we have Instagram user BradBuilds to thank for that.
He didn’t stop there, as he created enough space in the wheel area for gigantic off-road tires. Also, we observed that the controversially huge front grille on the production M4 looks like a perfect fit here.
5 Porsche 918 Spyder
The Porsche Spyder is an iconic car. It’s fast, sleek, powerful, and it’ll almost surmount all challenges thrown at it, but not one requiring it to go off-road. Rain Prisk must have thought of this, hence, he came up with this awesome rendering of an off-road version of the Porsche 918 Spyder for any takers.
Though it might never make it to production, the creativity on display here is top-notch. Also, asides from the massive off-road tires, we particularly love the off-road lights on the roof of the car as well as the rooftop spare tire rack.
4 Chiron
This render looks both insane and chaotic, but we love it. It’s the artistic imagination of the Chiron that has been equipped to handle the meanest of off-road challenges. You’d need some unconventional imaginations to come up with this render and Budget Direct possesses the ideal amount of such imagination.
Notably, the bumpers are gone, the suspensions have been jacked up, while the fascia is adorned with a gigantic winch mount. Not much work will be required under the hood as the Chiron’s quad-boosted 8.0-liter W-16 at 1,500 ponies is more than capable of handling any uprising.
3 Nissan Z Proto 4x4
It’s now certain that Rain Prisk has a thing for off-roading sports cars. For this rendering, his imagination took him to the Nissan Z Proto. Prisk has modified this car, giving it awesome abilities that could send Nissan Z fanatics into a major frenzy if fabricated for real.
To give it off-terrain abilities, Prisk added some inches to the car’s height by giving the suspension a lift. Also, the four massive black fenders around the meaty all-terrain tires add some aggression to the styling. He crowned it by adding a rooftop tent to the car.
2 Porsche 911 Safari
We’re indulging Porsche as the model gets another shout on this list. This time, it’s an off-road 911 Safari courtesy of HugoSilva Designs and one of the most conspicuous features on the render is the wheels – digitally curled from the Dakar-spec Peugeot, these massive Michelin tires look like they can weather any storm.
The suspensions have been jacked up to create ample space for a seamless ride on unpaved roads while the fenders have also been open up to accommodate bigger wheels. Extra efforts might be needed to board this car from the look of things, but generally, it looks feasible.
1 Tesla Roadster
A break from the conventional, some might say. Here, we see what could be achieved in the world of batteries and electric motors, and we’re impressed as well. Budget Direct might have put some ideas in Elon Musk’s mind with this interestingly rendered off-road version of the Tesla Roadster.
There are several things on the car that suggests it won’t be a bad idea; these include some creatively positioned roof-mounted solar panels, huge off-road tires with complimentary fenders, roof-mounted off-roading lights as well as a tow hook.
