Toyota is testing a new compact crossover, known for now as project 740B. Since Toyota's latest crossover based on the Yaris was named ''Yaris Cross' and project 740B is based on the Corolla, it's fair to assume this vehicle will be named 'Corolla Cross.' In the last month, this vehicle was spotted in public multiple times in Thailand and Taiwan, and although it was heavily camouflaged, we now have a somewhat clear idea of what this new Toyota could look like. Let's check it out.

This picture, taken in Thailand, is the first picture to show the crossover's front, we can see some design elements that give us some idea of what this SUV could look like. The LED running lights appear to have a horizontal layout, similar to that of the new Toyota Venza. We can also see what looks like a prominent trapezoid-shaped grille.

The Corolla Cross will have a similar design to the RAV4 while adopting some of the new updated design language that Toyota is using on its latest models. The Corolla Cross will use the TNGA (GA-C) modular platform, the same one used by the C-HR. When it comes to engines, the Corolla Cross will be offered with a 1.8 L 99 hp gas engine combined with an electric motor, delivering around 170hp. For non-hybrid options, the corolla SUV will pack the 140hp 1.8 L, as well as the Dynamic Force 178 hp 2.0 L. FWD and AWD versions will be available, both combined with a CVT Direct shift.

This crossover will be placed under the RAV4 in terms of price and size, aiming to compete with the successful Honda HR-V. For North America, although not confirmed yet, it could be made alongside the Corolla at the Cambridge, Ontario, Canada plant. The global unveiling for this model will be in November.
