Achieving a world record across the 1/4 mile is a big thing for many people. Usually, this is via some pretty outrageously modified cars. But there is scope for relatively stock cars to be able to achieve such a feat. The Drag Racing and Car Stuff YouTube channel has uploaded a video of the world's quickest stock pulley 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, smashing the 1/4-mile run in just under 10 seconds.
Highly Impressive Run At Mod Nats 2021
This GT500 is a stunning example of the car, finished in a deep orange with black stripes all across it and of course a rear spoiler. The first run in the video shows the car at Mod Nats 2021, and it is running on 93 pump gas.
This clip is already a showcase of how good a stock car can be. The Shelby gets a great launch off the line and completes that run in 10.120 seconds and tops out at 134.52 mph. The best is yet to come, though, as the owner goes back out at the same track a week later to complete an even better run. This was the 9.9 second run, again on 93 pump gas.
A Showcase For Stock Cars
The next run shown in the video though is a different 9.9 second run. This shows the car on E85 gas, and the YouTube channel owner was lucky enough to be able to film it. The Shelby launches away and clocks a 9.91 second run and tops out at 137.60 mph. This is impressive for a car that is basically all stock. The owner talks us through it, and specifically it’s a 2020 carbon fiber track pack GT500. Remember, that is an official package, not an unofficial modification.
Just Small Changes On This Car
Only small modifications are found on this GT500. These include a cold air intake that has come from SPE Motorsport and a Lethal Performance race pipe, whilst the car was also Palm Beach Dyno tuned. At the back of the car, the owner has given the Shelby Mickey Thompson Drag Radials. These runs make this GT500 the world's quickest across the 1/4 mile with the stock pulley.
It’s a big win for owners who don’t want to massively modify their cars. That is an expensive task for anyone, and hopefully this video shows that, with just a few mods, you can extract plenty of performance out of your car.
