Some people just like to stand out from the crowd, and Alex Lawn is no exception. He took a brand-new Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray and gave it a major makeover. The black mid-engine sports car now looks absolutely amazing. A standard version C8 is a pretty hot car, but this thing is on fire.

Alex is no stranger to modified cars, as he's owned a string of real head turners in the past. When he was 18, his remodeled 2012 Camaro took SEMA by storm, and won first place at the 2017 show.

Being a long-term muscle car fan, Alex recently wanted something brand new to tinker with. So, he bought a C8 Vette in 2020 to use as a canvass for his next creation. Cody Groom features the finished product in a video from his Driving Cody YouTube channel.

The World's First Wide-Bodied C8 Corvette

“I like different, I like to go crazy with my cars” says Alex, as he gives us the low-down on what appears to be the world’s first wide-bodied Corvette C8. The Pandem bodykit adds some real drama to the car’s road presence. When it's out on the road, many non-car enthusiasts could easily mistake it for a much more exotic European supercar.

Alex went to LTMW, a well-known BMW tuning and body-work specialist, to source the bodykit. They passed his C8 on to the SEMA garage in LA, where the engineers sized it up and scanned it. Then Mira in Japan did the rendering, and produced the wide-body conversion kit. Once they received the shipment, LTMW did the installation work and painted the car. The whole thing took almost a year to complete.

You’ve probably noticed that the rims are not standard either. Alex went for matte black LD97s, with 265/30 Toyos on the front 19 x 9.5 rims, and 325/30s on the rear 20 x 12s. “I wanted the biggest racing tires possible” said Alex.

When you catch a glimpse of the side of the car you get to see how insanely low it is, it sits just millimeters off the tarmac. “I had TJ brackets made especially for the car. This is the world’s first air-suspension and wide-body C8,” he says proudly.

The car's two-tone, butterscotch and black, interior sits really well with the black paintwork. And Alex has made some really cool touches to this truly exceptional ride, such as the carbon mirrors and diffuser, Brembo brakes, quad Borla Atak exhaust system, and raised rear wing.

Future Plans For The C8

So what’s next? Alex's C8 is running on the stock 500 horsepower powertrain. He wants to double the power, and right now he’s considering the best way to go about it, it’s likely he’ll shoot for a supercharger.

But performance isn't the only thing he wants to change, he’s also planning to have it custom wrapped. And we're sure it'll look great, because this car looks like it should be on the set of a Fast and Furious movie.

We're not sure how much Alex has spent on the car so far, but we really like what we see. It is a bit of a gamble, taking an all-American muscle car and giving it to a Japanese body-work company to play with. But in this case it certainly paid off, and there's no doubt that this head-turner will be collecting even more accolades at future SEMA events. Nice one Alex!
