This GT2 and GT1-inspired Porsche 911 racecar currently listed for sale out of Portland, Oregon, on the auction website Bring a Trailer once again proves the old adage not to judge a book by its cover. Sure, the wild exterior looks almost psychedelic but under the skin lies a fully built and prepped Porsche track toy ready for a new owner. Compared to modern hypercars from Porsche that offer hybrid power and all-wheel-drive acceleration, the bids probably won't reach as high (and not just because the car is very clearly street illegal) but also because this represents a raw driving experience that restricts the potential bidding populace to only the most dedicated Porsche fans.

The car began its life as a 964-generation 911 before receiving a complete workover with fiberglass bodywork in the style of a 993-gen GT2 racer, plus that massive carbon-fiber rear wing from a 996 Cup car. The livery is on a white wrap, while plexiglass windows, a three-inch front splitter, and a metal roof panel round out the exterior.

Hanging off the rear axle, the air-cooled flat-six reportedly received a 2020 rebuild at the hands of Dick Elverud and now displaces 3.8 liters with Mahle 102-millimeter pistons, Carillo connecting rods, ARP bolts, and all the usual upgades like ported cylinder heads, upgraded camshafts, titanium spring retains, a GT3 oil pump, and new bearings. The powerplant drives the rear wheels only through a G50 six-speed stick shift equipped with close-ratio gearing, Porsche motorsport synchros, a GT3 Cup flywheel and clutch, and a clutch-style Guard limited-slip diff.

Stripped And Gutted For Race Days Only

The interior looks full racecar with a roll cage, Recaro buckets, a Race Tech harness, and a Fire Sense suppression system (the latter two unexpired), plus a Rothsport shifter, a Motorola radio system, a data logger, and a brand-new floor-mounted pedal box featuring adjustable brake biasing. In the "frunk," a new fuel cell was installed in 2020 and the only potentially perplexing addition comes in the form of electric power steering from a 997-gen GT3 Cup car—though wrestling a car like this through hard corners without power steering would probably get pretty tiring pretty quickly. Bidding currently sits at (a typical BaT numerology figure) $46,993 with five days remaining until the final gavel. Now if only the regular seller, 911r of Avante-Garde Collection, could have included a driving video to satisfy all the eager flat-six fans out there.
