The Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06 is an American sports car legend that continues to battle its rivals from Europe that are several times more expensive. A quick history of the Corvette Z06 states that it produced an incredible 650 hp on its debut in 2015. Those are impressive numbers even by today's standards.

Because of the Corvette Z06's lower price of entry, the car becomes much more accessible to buyers. While there is a lot to love about the Corvette C7 Z06, controlling the American sports car can be tricky.

With so much power and torque from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 in a fairly light rear-wheel drive vehicle, the C7 Z06 is a handful. Recently, one C7 Z06 crashed at Willow Springs. In a video by YouTube channel Can I be Frank, a heavily modified C7 Corvette Z06 street races an S197 turbo Mustang which ends with the Z06 going up in flames.

Remember that we do not condone street racing, and you should always do your spirited driving at a drag strip, racetrack, or autocross event. Luckily, there were no injuries other than the driver's pride.

Too Fast...Too Furious

According to the YouTube channel Can I be Frank, The Z06 Corvette includes several modifications like a heads cam ported blower with E85 fuel and a 200 shot of nitrous. The automatic transmission of the Corvette would shift into manual mode in 5th gear. By the time the car shifted into 6th gear, the Z06 hit the rev limiter while nitrous continued to spray.

This resulted in the motor blowing and the car catching on fire.

Later in the clip, a 2000 whp Nissan GT-R goes a little too fast and spins out while going at high speed. This shows that even with all-wheel drive and stability controls, too much power can end in disaster.

Corvette Reliability When Modifying

The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most reliable sports cars in stock form. For most, 650 horsepower and 650 ft-lb of torque in the Z06 is plenty for the street and track. However, the reliability of the Corvette drastically decreases when you add power. Like any car, adding more boost to the supercharger, different fuel types, and nitrous will add a lot more stress to the motor.
