Struggling Jaguar Gives $3,000 Discount On I-Pace EV

Jaguar is struggling to sell cars, so now they’re offering deep discounts on their I-Pace electric vehicle.

The only weird thing is that they’re only giving that discount to Tesla owners.

Jaguar is in trouble. The company is hemorrhaging money at an alarming rate because they’re not selling new cars. One of those cars is the I-Pace, Jaguar’s first luxury electric car that looks like a family hatchback.

Which is probably the problem. Jaguar has always been a luxury brand that sells cars with obviously luxury lines. The I-Pace looks downright plain but is priced like a luxury sedan at just under $70,000. Image is everything in the luxury segment, and the I-Pace’s looks sell a confused message to prospective buyers.

Worse still, if you want an electric car, you can get a Tesla Model 3 for a fraction of the price. And it will have better performance, longer range, and all of Tesla’s bells and whistles like Autopilot, Tesla Arcade, and Elon Musk sending out insane tweets every 45 minutes.

In order to combat their closest competitor, Jaguar has decided to offer a $3,000 discount on the I-Pace, but according to Engadget, they’re only giving it to Tesla owners.

Called the "Tesla Conquest" initiative, you just need to provide proof of ownership and registration to a Jaguar dealer and they’ll give you $3,000 off a new I-Pace. You can even combine that with a $7,000 cash allowance and a $5,000 dealer discount for a grand total of $15,000 off a new Jaguar I-Pace.

That brings the I-Pace down to $54,500, which is a lot better, but it’s still several thousand dollars more than the Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus, which has a few more miles of range. It’s also about the same price as a Tesla Model 3 Performance, which has over 70 miles more range and can get from zero to sixty a full second faster than the I-Pace.

Even with this discount, it’s just hard to recommend the I-Pace over an equivalent Tesla unless you just prefer the hatchback design and slightly different interior quality.
