Supercars battling each other in a drag race are always an astonishing sight. This is especially true when the supercars involved include a Porsche 911 Turbo S, a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and a McLaren 720S. To see which supercar would win, Carwow’s Mat Watson gathered these three exotics for a quick drag and roll race.

Tale Of The Tape: Porsche 911 Turbo S

These supercars -- Porsche 911 Turbo S, Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and McLaren 720S – aren’t really new creations. Thus, they have already tested their worth not just on the road, but also on the strip. They have already battled it out against other supercars, with mixed results. These results, however, provide us an idea who might win.

On paper, the Porsche 991 Turbo S can deliver 640 hp of max output and 590 lb-ft of peak torque from its 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine. Weighing around 3,615 lbs, the 991 Turbo S sends power to all wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Tale Of The Tape: Aventador SVJ And McLaren 720S

On the other hand, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is more powerful and lighter than the 991 Turbo S. Weighing 3,362 lbs, the Aventador SVJ features a 6.5-liter V12 engine that delivers 759 hp of max output and 531 lb-ft of torque to all wheels via a 7-speed automated manual gearbox.

Sitting in the middle of the power pack, but the lightest among the three is the McLaren 720S. Tipping the scales at only 3,130 lbs, the 720S comes with 4-liter twin-turbo V8 sending 710 hp of max output and 568 lb-f of torque to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Previous real-world quarter-mile results of these three protagonists show both the Turbo S and 720S capable of hitting 9-second quarter-mile times. Meanwhile, the Aventador SVJ had never breached the 10-second barrier. Of course, another real-world drag race is very much appreciated.

The drag race saw the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Lamborghini Aventador SVJ having good launches. The McLaren 720S, however, failed to do so, and its driver might have missed the signal or was sleeping behind the wheel. At the end, however, the 911 Turbo S prevailed, followed by the Aventador SVJ.

In the first roll race (50-mph comfy mode), the 911 Turbo S and 720S went toe-to-toe, although the Porsche won by just a foot or so. The 720S dominated the second 50-mph rolling race (the sportiest mode). The Aventador SVJ did grab a win – the braking contest.
