Supercars are a perfect combination of luxury, style, performance, and high speed; they're considered to be masterpieces that are produced by car manufacturers. These supercars have come a long way, and they're still hitting the market with a huge bang.

Updated April 2022: Some supercars only show their true colors after a certain time period has passed by. Now that we know even more about some of the more recent supercars on this list, we've updated it to discern the truly reliable ones from those that frequently break down.

But despite their high speed and high performance, they still tend to have a few disadvantages when it comes to reliability. With the increase in demand and rise in competition among car manufacturers, they've tried their best to make these superfast supercars even more reliable.

More people are now buying these vehicles, especially used ones, and every car reviewer out there is getting his or her hands on one supercar or the other, trying to rate it from the perspective of the average buyer. More importantly, buyers are now demanding more worth for their money. This means that there are fewer people who are ready and willing to spend a million dollars on a car that'll cost a million more just to service and repair.

However, some manufacturers out there are still providing weak supercars. Yes, their engines might roar louder than a lion in the Serengeti, but then, the car might choke to a garage right after it. In this article, we've prepared a list of 10 supercars that were built to crumble and 10 that turned out so reliable because they were built like tanks.

19 Built To Crumble: 2006 BMW M6

via Classic Driver

You knew it was coming, and that's why we started off the list with an absolute bombshell (literally). The BMW E63 M6 was designed by Chris Bangle, and it engulfed one of the world's best-sounding V10 engines ever, which was also found in the M5 of the time. 5.0-liters of naturally-aspirated V10 power that catapulted 500 hp to the rear wheels solely, so what's the issue? You see, this engine was notoriously hungry, and its diet consisted of rod bearings, and once they failed, the whole engine would seize, and more often than not end up as a sparkling fireball.

18 Built To Crumble: 1995 Vector M12

This luxury sports car was launched in the year 1995, but it quickly came to an end in the year 1999 due to its low sales record. With five years in production, only 17 units were built; simply put, it was overpriced for the poor quality it came in.

Vector M12's engine was based on the Lamborghini Diablo and was able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. The build quality of the M12 was, however, made of cheap fiberglass, making it extremely unreliable. Despite being more road-friendly and fuel-efficient than some supercars of its time, this car wasn't a hit and was named the worst car ever tested by the ‘Autoweek' magazine.

The Lamborghini Countach is a supercar every teenager still dreams of owning. Launched in 1974, this supercar has gained huge popularity from car enthusiasts and buyers.

The 1978 Lamborghini Countach LS400 S model went through major changes in regard to its engine, tires, and exterior design. All these components were downgraded, which was considered a huge setback for this model. This Countach LP400 S model saw three series of limited-edition supercars only getting sold, which were all considered to have poor quality when compared to their class. Thus, sadly, the famous and glorified Lamborghini Countach had to make the list of cars that were built to crumble.

via Esquire

The DeLorean DMC-12 of Back to the Future fame hit the American market in the year 1981. This supercar was applauded by car enthusiasts for its futuristic design and appearance, and it also flaunted some gull-wing doors and was called a safety feature – though it was never really validated.

Despite all this “good stuff” going on, the DeLorean DMC-12 saw an early end in the year 1983 due to the financial crisis. The car takes its body design from the ‘Giorgetto Giugiaro' and is brushed in SS304 Stainless Steel. Since it used stainless steel exterior panels, it became extremely difficult to repair and had to be replaced every time it got scratched, dented, or even just slightly dinked.

The Mondial 8 is considered to be the slowest, ugliest, and worst Ferrari the team at Maranello has ever created. ,The car received mixed criticism at the time of its launch, but later, as time went by, most of these criticisms changed to pure hate from the car enthusiasts.

This supercar was considered to be seriously underpowered, slow, and unreliable. It could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around 9.5 seconds, which was painfully slow for a supercar, and it was extremely unstable around corners too. To make matters worse, the price of this Mondial 8 was high, which made it undesirable for car buyers.

McLaren has been on top of their game since they released the MP4-12C, and their reliability has been nothing but solid. So why are they on this list then? Although they're rather reliable, their build quality is absolutely dreadful. It has been found that once customers receive their brand spanking new 720S models, they were littered with panel gaps, rusty screws, and bolts, and even some interiors were creaky, and not solidly built. So, yes, they were wonderful machines to drive and to own, only if you were given one from the good batch.

There's no question whether the Lamborghini Aventador is a breathtaking, jaw-dropping, blisteringly fast supercar to drive, but just as awesome as it was, it was dangerous too. Now, this isn't a list dedicated to the most challenging cars to drive fast, but the Aventador had one mammoth of an issue: its unreliable carbon fiber monocoque. So if you've ever seen a video of an Aventador catching fire after revving too much, or being involved in a little crash, that's the reason why.

A total of 350 Jaguar XJ220 Supercars were intended to be released, but due to its poor sales record and bad reception, the car production was stopped when the 281st unit was produced. Apart from the stability and reliability issues, this Jaguar was priced exorbitantly high, which made it all the more undesirable.

After making its debut in the year 2003, this model has been a huge success and is still in production after over a decade. Over the years, the car has proven its worth in performance, value for money, and handling, but one aspect it lacked horrendously was reliability.

See, a survey was conducted by The Week and found that out of all the Continental GTs involved in the study, approximately 93% of them have experienced at least one issue throughout one year. Every single generation of the Continental GT has been plagued with problems, but they are irresistible since they offer vast performance at a ridiculously low price tag.

However, the Dodge Viper lacked safety features and wasn't easy to handle. Due to lack of stability, this supercar was considered one of the most dangerous cars of its period, as it got tricky to control at high speeds for an inexperienced driver. With only four years in production, this car had to pave the way for the next generation.

But with all these mistakes, the auto manufacturers got wiser. Thus, they started building supercars that had the reliability of a tank. And here are 10 of them.
