For classic cars and restomod showcases, and muscle car reviews, the best place to go is Shawn's AutotopiaLA YouTube channel. Shawn and his team put together some amazing videos featuring wild cars from the LA area. These range from muscle cars, police interceptors, and crazy restomods. We aren’t sure what category this thing falls into, but it is certainly wild and not your average pickup! It is a 1941 GMC pickup that has been modified beyond belief to be an awesome and badass hot rod.

Once A Stock GMC Truck But Now Heavily Modified

This truck is owned by Tim, and Shawn admits he has no knowledge of the truck but is eager to find out more. Tim explains that it started out as a classic 1941 GMC truck, found on Craigslist. It was all stock but was in quite a state. Almost all of the frame has been boxed and caged up to add extra strength, while the majority of the body is as it was when Tim got his hands on it.  It came to him without fenders, and he saw no reason to add any. Seeing it on the street, Shown describes it as looking like the perfect blend of hot rod and off-road machinery.

Small Block Engine Provides Plenty Of Power

via YouTube

After Tim pops open the Zeus tabs, we see a small block 350 with a supercharger added and water-meth injection "so it doesn’t explode!" Tim deadpans.  On a dyno run, it produced just under 400 hp but with 10 lb of boost, it is probably a bit over 400 now.  That makes it "sketchy fast in the dirt", but a lot of fun, kind of what a hot rod is all about.

It sounds nasty according to Shawn with an aggressive soundtrack unlike many hotrods.  The front suspension geometry and steering rack come from a Ford Ranger with obvious modification to the former.  Despite initial appearances, it is rear-wheel drive.  Method wheels help it stand out, with Welrod brakes allowing for stopping power without power assist.

Craigslist Provided A Lot Of Parts For This GMC Build

via YouTube

Tim found the truck on Craigslist and most of the parts came from the same, as Tim wanted this to be more of a budget rat rod build. Out on the road, Shawn comments on how it is easy to feel the power of the truck. It was meant to be a street-legal truck that Tim could use rather than confined to off-roading and the race track.  He drives the car every day. And why not? It is clearly built to last.
