Watch Supercharged F-150 Take On Modified 2019 Mustang In Drag Race Action

Two supercharged Fords square off on the drag strip for automotive supremacy.

F-150 GT

Check out this supercharged Ford F-150 takes on a similarly supercharged Mustang GT in a quarter-mile drag race.

We’ve seen Boosted a few times, most recently answering the age-old question of whether it is faster to race with your tailgate up or down (up, by the way, to prevent air vortices from being formed). His personal ride is a Ford F-150 that has been modified with a 2.9-L Whipple supercharger on its 5.0-L V8 engine. Combined with new fuel injectors, a new pump, American racing headers, and an E50 fuel mix tuning, Boosted's F-150 now makes an estimated 950 horsepower at the rear wheels.

It's also been lowered by a good 3 inches and given a set of Nitto drag racing tires, turning this F-150 into a true drag machine.

His opponent for this video is a tuned 2019 Ford Mustang GT. Under the hood is the same 5.0-L Coyote V8 engine as the F-150 as well as a Whipple supercharger. The GT also has a 3.875 pulley upgrade and E85 tuning. All that should give the Mustang at least 700 hp as with similarly tuned Roush models, and possibly even more.

At around 3,700 lbs, the GT and F-150 should have a fairly similar power-to-weight ratio. It's really anybody's race.

Judging by the way the Mustang shudders slightly with each gear change, we’re going to guess than the GT has a 6-speed manual connected to its supercharged V8. While this might make the GT a more “pure” drag racer, no human can compare to the gear-swapping speeds of a computer-controlled automatic, and it likely cost the Mustang the race.

The final time for the supercharged F-150 was 10.29 seconds at 135 mph, while the Mustang managed a 10.69 second time at 135.88 mph.

The video ends promising a rematch, so hopefully we’ll see the GT put up a better fight next time.
